I have bought some new karaoke equipment and the sound seems worse than when I had a home system. The singing output sounds plain like just talking into a PA system. I like a tad bit echo and have now way of producing that with what I have. Maybe I don't have it all connected correctly. Below is what I have....can anyone give me some tips on what I need to do to improve the sound.

I have the following: Yamaha S115IV speakers, Mackie DFX-12 mixer, RMX 1450 Amp, JVC Triple Tray player.

What do I need to add in order to have a good sound for doing small clubs.

I have all this set up in my bedroom.....maybe that's why the sound is off. I can use my Radio Shack speakers, stereo amp and JVC single tray player in the same room and that sounds pretty good.

It sounds like you don't have your effects turned up or they are bypassed.

That is not a bad system & should sound pretty decent & will work in small clubs just fine.
To get effects to your vocal mics, turn up the Aux 2 on the mic channel. Then you need to turn up the Aux 2 "send" above the red faders. Now turn the Aux 2 "red" fader up & you should be getting effects. Adjust which type of effect you want ie reverb, delay, etc.. & you should be good to go. If you aren't hearing any effect, then you probably have all the Aux sends turned down to low.

I tried that but still the same. I don't have anything connected to my Aux send jacks.

Even though there is nothing technically "connected" to the Aux sends, the Aux 2 is connected internally to the built in effects. Double check the red fader that the Mute isn't turned on. If this don't work, you may need to exchange it for a new one as the effects may be messed up. It happens - even to the best companies.

Betcha he has the music on an effect. the music channel on the efx #2 knob needs to be fully ccw.

yep... make certain that the only channels you have your FX on are the mic channels, otherwise the music will come out with the "affected" sound effects, reverb, or whatever you have it set on.

He didn't mention anything about effects in the music, but yes you shouldn't have the effect in the music.
