Karen's comment about karaoke in an old folks home got me thinking about an experience I had recently.  My grandmother had to go to a nursing home for a few weeks while recovering from a fall.  One day I went to visit her, and they were having entertainment that day.   The entertainer was a lady playing acoustic guitar and singing songs for the people over a mic. It was a very simple setup.  The crowd of people there really enjoyed this diversion from their normal day--you could see it in their faces and in their response to her singing.

My guess is there is alot of opportunity out there for some karaoke singers, especially if you can play a guitar, keyboard, or accompanying instrument (or even if you could create a small singing group with your friends) to provide some enjoyment to people who would really appreciate it.  The pay may not be high, but the rewards would be great.

the less amplification the better (the voice of experience here) even a voice amplified can be too much for hearing impaired.

LOL Actually I've found, that if I play Big Band, or even 50s tunes.....I can crank it up, and they love it....when I play anything later than that, then complain it's too loud.... LOL ....also have to watch for the most sensitive ones, who always like to sit right in front of a speaker...... LMAO

[font=verdana] So far all of my actual KJ’ing experience is in this type of venue where my daughter works as a CNA in Kalkaska.  Of course, I’m not Dusty, or even Blue Rose Karaoke, I’m Lisa’s mother to these folks……LOL  I do it strictly as a benefit to get some experience talking behind the mic.  They have another lady that comes once a month and does Karaoke for them and she gets $50 for a one hour show.  With the gas price so high, it’s a 2 ½ hour drive one way for me, I can’t really do it unless I am going to Kalkaska to visit Lisa anyway.  I am going to contact similar facilities in my area and try to set up some shows.  The people do love the diversion and are a great audience.  The greatest benefit though is to me, both in experience, which I sorely need, and in the satisfaction of doing something for others just because I can.  I highly recommend it to one and all if you can fit it into your schedule. :oh yeah:
