Post subject:  NEW RELEASE FAVORITES

Everyone has that favorite song that they've sung for years .... I want to know ........What is that song that YOU or your singers just love to sing that has been released in the last 6 months... The HOT stuff - maybe Country Rock Hip Hop ..or whatever.......

Me : I've been singing my fair share of "I LOVE THIS BAR" by Tobey Keith and also "Bright lights" by Matchbox 20 . My regulars who tend to be MY age (40'ish) seem to be content with their regular songs and very rarley are trying NEW stuff. What are you seeing?

Gotta say- I love the 'new' groups Train and Coldplay.

I have a mixed 'auidence' from 20-50, and they all seem to like it. Most often I get asked "who was that by?"- Especially to do "The Scientist" by Coldplay, or "Calling all Angels" by Train.

As far as country- of course "I Love this Bar", and the great new one, "What was I Thinkin'" by Dirks Bently- kinda reminds me of Garths "Aint goin Down".........

For me, it's been Evanescence 'Bring Me to Life' (I think that's been within the past 6 months).

Two of my favorite newer songs are BNL's Another Postcard and Stacy's Mom by Fountains of Wayne.

DBK--I agree, Train is great, and, unfortunately out of my vocal range. I'd love to be able to sing Drops of Jupiter or Meet Virginia, but I can't do them justice so I just sit and hope someone who can comes to my show!

I've got a couple. Although they may have been out more than 6 months, that's about how long they've been on karaoke cd+g's. They are "Three Wooden Crosses" and "Tough Little Boys".

oooh nice topic!

ME

I love singing Evanescence - My Immortal but I'm a "change junkie" so I've gotta lay off it now unless anyone asks (that'll give me an excuse to "give in". Sung it before it charted so I'm on 7th or 8th time and I've got a personal goal of "no more than 5 times before I move on"). That would be my favourite (and is a "keeper" for future years for me). The Evanescence stuff just gets me somewhere deep (lyrically and musically).

Others which I've wanted to carry on singing ad nauseum include:

Christina Aguilera - Fighter
Evanescence - Hello (not released in UK yet, dunno about US), Bring Me To Life, Going Under
Kelly Clarkson - Just Missed The Train (not released in UK yet, dunno about US), Miss Independent
Sugababes - Stronger & Hole In The Head
Pink - Feel Good Time

Sorry.......kinda got carried away :? ......2003 was a good year for me finding songs.

KARAOKE REGULARS

Robbie Williams or Will Young
Liberty X or Dido - White Flag and Life For Rent

They're the artists they've been fighting over.

I hear ya Lisa! Our whole family loves the Evanescence cd.

Why do you think I'm bugging you for "My Immortal" to come out on STTW?? Huh? Cause you guys NAILED "Going Under", and your version of "Bring Me To Life" is better than most!

One thing I am very happy to see is more Canadian content coming out there are several really good manufacturers who have done disks for groups like Guess Who, Burton Cummings, Brian Wilcox, Kim Mitchell, Tragically Hip. They plan a number of new ones with groups like the Stampeders, BTO, Powder Blues, Northern Pikes, Doug & the Slugs and Tom Cochrane - Red Rider.

These are many songs of my youth (20+ years ago) that I never thought I would see on karaoke because of limited or no US release. Many of these songs can rock the house so for me they are like new releases.

I am wondering if on the Singer's Showcast we could see a catagory for Canadian tunes. There are enough singers in Canada to warrant a catagory like Spanish Eh! Our language is an English on to itself - we're a bunch of beer drinkin' hosers in toques up here Eh! in the Great White North...and then there are Newfies

Solsbury Hill Peter Gabriel
Fool In The Rain Led Zeppelin
Lawyers, Guns, & Money Warren Zevon
Excitable Boy Warren Zevon

I love doing all of the above songs, each of which is always well received, but the new song that really threw threw was And She Was Talkings Heads.

I found it while helping a friend proofread her songbook. I didn't have high hopes as some cdg companies don't alway do Talking Heads songs much justice, but I was pleasantly suprised with how good it sounded.

The 1st time I performed it I almost got cold feet. Because even though I'm frequently complimented on the originality of my song selection, after I submitted the song slip I began to think that this song was going to be a bit of a stretch for that particular venue, a neighborhood working class bar. :?

Unable to think of an alternative, I figured "What the heck"! It's wasn't like I was playing the Country & Western bar from The Blues Brothers. The worst that would happen would be that I'd hear crickets as I left the mike. To my shock and amazement, not only did the crowd like the song, they actually knew it and were singing along with the chorus! :D Just like the man said, "never just a book..."

That was about a month ago. And She Was has been one of my "go to" songs ever since.

When using the venues' list of songs I'll try to determine the type of disc that the song I'm looking for is on......often I find I prefere specific arrangements.....some are slower...others too fast......and oh yeah....the words change....

Thats why I prefere singing off one of my own discs, cause you know what your getting...

Recently I've been singing "I Believe" by Diamond Rio
