what's up karaoke dudes and dudessess!  what do you think about this deal?   the songs aren't all that great maybe but 20 bucks for 99 songs seems pretty good to pump up my songlist.  I really need more cowbell, I mean, country music.  I know chartbuster has good country, so maybe this is pretty good?  looking for opinions here since I am not a country singer usually (except for jerry reed).  thanks - jim

It's decent-quality stuff, but only about 5-8 of these songs are real likely to be sung, IMHO.

Unless you already have a bunch of country, I would pass and spend it on 1) an artst disk (i.e. Toby Keith, Sugarland, George Strait) or 2) a more recent country compilation like CB5080 ($33 or so).

I am a country fan and since they are just up the road I have a lot of Chartebuster.  These collections have very few song titles I recognize. At that price you might find it worth it if there are just a dozen or songs you really want. But I don't see much there. Unless some of these are must have songs for you I think I would pass.

This is a typical example of why I quit blanketly buying cd,s on monthly basis. If I dont have a choice I wont buy.

I wasn't even counting Margaritaville -- the Alan Jackson version -- in my 5-8. (I assume Ham has Margaritaville already -- it is in any decent "foundation" set).

We, in our very country area, get some traffic on:

7   Red Dirt Road   Brooks & Dunn
14  The Good Stuff  Kenny Chesney
20  Walk A Little Straighter    Billy Currington
38  Drive (For Daddy Gene)  Alan Jackson
65  Beer For My Horses  Toby Keith and Willie Nelson
67  It's Hard To Kiss The Lips At Night That Chew Your @%! Out All Da   Notorious Cherry Bombs feat. Rodney Crowell & Vince Gill
76  Some Beach  Blake Shelton

None of these are sung a lot, though.

I do:

79  Tell Me Something Bad About Tulsa   George Strait
91  The Chain Of Love   Clay Walker

But have never heard anyone else do them.

I look at the top 5 songs on the country charts each quarter and buy those. Typically the rest will never end up getting played. I gave up on purchasing Country sets as they are full of songs that never make it to the charts.

My suggestion is ask your customers that sing country what they want to see in the books and purchase either on Custom CDG or on discs that have other songs that would be popular with them also.

You can waste a ton of money on buying what you think they want, but asking produces results on what they really want. I also keep a log of song requests that I don't have and purchase them if they check out to be in the top 10 on the charts. Otherwise I don't buy it.

I don't see a lot of songs on these sets that people have sung or requested at my shows. But Im like you I have a hard time picking out country disc.

Some Country songs that get sung here are:

I Love This Bar
Who's Your Daddy
Save a Horse Ride a Cowboy
Folsom Prison
Forever And Ever Amen
Where I come From
Don't Rock The Jukebox
Amarillo By Morning
Chatahoochee(yuk, yuk, yuk)
A Long Way To Richmond
All My Exes Live In Texas
Redneck Woman
Before He Cheats
Friends In Low Places
The Thunder Rolls

There are more, mostly older country songs that a lot of people here like which I can't remember right now. If I think of them I'll add them to the list.

Jim

You know full-well about "opinions".  In one person's opinion,  Amarillo By Morning is a poplular karaoke country song.  I get lot's of kudos when I do Amarillo..., but I have never heard anyone but myself do it in the 10 years I've been out singing karaoke.

I thank you for the "heads-up"; as for me, I'll be getting both packs!

Best regards

PS Let's not forget about varying opinions regarding the Backstage Billy Joel disc

Any list has to include:

  It's Only Make Believe
  He Stopped Loving Her Today
  I Cross My Heart
  Family Tradition
