Hello All,

I have the following setup and am wondering what your suggestions would be for my next piece of equipment:

* Numark KMX02 (Karaoke Mixer / Dual CD+G Player)
* VocoPro UHF-5800 (4 Wireless Mics)
* Furhman Power Conditioner
* Bose L1 Series II system with 2 Bass Modules

I decided to go with the Numark for portability and when I eventually upgrade to a separate CD Player and Separate Mixer I will use the Numark as a backup.  With the Numark I am getting a high pitched sound I can't seem to get rid of (I have an e-mail into Numark support to see what to try) and the Numark only has 3 EQ controls for the sound.  I am also not that crazy about the reverb, it doesn't sound as clean as I would like.  But all in all it's a nice unit and easy to operate, I knew I wasn't buying the best when I bought it, but again it will make a good backup system once I start getting paid events.

I am considering the following but am not sure what would be the best, possibly including something to clip or limit that high noise and help with sound quality:

DBX 131 or 215 (I currently use both XLR outputs from the Numark into a single XLR connection then to 1/4" Balanced which goes into the Bose). http://www.dbxpro.com/131/131.php

If it were me i'd drop the cd/mixer combo & get a real mixer like the CFX12 & a separate player.

I have the smaller DFX mixer and I love it.  I am driving a pair of pwered speakers and single powered monitor woth it and it couldn't be better for me but the CFX series is better for really tweaking the most out of your sound, especially with a high end system like the Bose.  In fact i would say geting the onyx would be worth it on that just because of the WONDERFUL preamps in it.  For a pair of powered speakers the DFX or the CFX are going to be fine but the Onlyx preamps are quieter and just plain better than the others.  

Of the two makies you mentioned I think the CFX is way harder and requires more attention on stage.  Yes, you can get better results if you work it but for me the DFX is really good and mostly it is really easy to use without messing about too much.  I am often doing a solo acoustic act so it's a different gig but like a KJ I am pretty busy with other stuff on stage, the DFX is simple to operate and get really good quality sound from.  Simple and good is sometimes better than complicated but GREAT!

Doesn't the BOSE system have mixing capabilities?

Either way a little DFX 6 would be a good pick up.

NOt sure if you need any other enhancers with the BOSE system>

Bose has a T1 mixer that is GREAT for Karaoke as well as djing. Second choice would be CFX 12 mixer.  :D

I use HK lucas Power works 600watt powered speakers. I am so impressed with the quality (I always get comments off the singers as well) that I bought a second setup for my other gig, saves me carrying around, although the full setup is not to big and bulky. I use a DFX12 Mackie, whats the diferrence between DFX & CFX? I never use the graphic as the quality of sound is excellent without using and the sound effects are nice and crisp.I converted my system over too laptop using a seperate hard drive.

Mics are sennheiser 835, very strong and robust been dropped loads of times still going strong and no dints in the mesh. Used shure in the past but they get dinked easily. I don't think my ear is quite refined enough to tell a massive difference between SM58 and the 835, I have heard loads of comments on hear that the SM58 is more forgiving to the vocalist, but never really compared.

I use cordless JTS mic also pretty impressed with.

I have a Bose L1 w/2 B1 Bass Bins   The perfect choice for your setup is the T1 mixer
as it is perfectly matched with your bose setup. You will not be sorry you made the purchase. It is simply the best mixer I have ever used...Period!

$500 for the T1 and you are good to go. It is by far the best audio equipment purchase I have ever made!

If you go with Mackie the CFX model is the best choice. I have run both DFX and CFX and I recommend the C series which is in the $500 range as well.

As for the Newmark...If you have return privileges without taking a major hit on what you paid you may be better off with a High Quality player. Preferably multiple trays for loading. I'm not up on what is available in players as I'm 100% digital for the past 5 years but if you can find a good deal on a used JVC Triple Tray Player they are bullet proof. They stopped making them but are still available used. I have 3 in storage just in case of I have to go back to discs (god what a terrible thing that would be)  LMAO

You should get another Bose system so you can run your sound in Stereo. The ultimate setup is 2 of the towers and 4 bins.

I agree with you about twin systems and stereo, but some folks are working with a budget. Your talkin another $2800 to make that happen. Most DJ's have the 2nd tower and extra bins but they need it for medium to large events. His application is Karaoke and he is just starting out in the business.

The Bose System sounds better in mono than most stereo PAs anyway
