My dog Max had to have his toe amputated. He'll be ok, but I feel bad for him. This week I haven't felt like doing much 'cause I was so bummed out--I kept thinking if I'd taken him to the vet sooner, the toe wouldn't have gotten infected. (he was limping, but I didn't realize how bad it really was until I took him to the vet)
Max was a very good patient and has been convalescing at home. Prayers are needed for a speedy recovery!

A lot of times it's hard to tell if a pet has a serious problem or just a temporary ache or pain. Sometimes they don't even let on that they're having a problem. One doggie prayer on it's way! :)

Pets are true unconditional friends, they don't play people-like headgames.. they are dependant on us, BELIEVE me, I know the fear and suffering when a pet is ill.. It's real, and I wish you luck !

awww, poor little buddie!
I'm a pet lover myself, and you're right... too much attention to every little owwie and you're a hypochondriac and too little you're a cold hearted SOB...
just show him or her your love, Laura... they're pretty adaptable!
Hugs!

aw poor little guy. We hurt when they hurt. I love my pets like they are family.
I have a cat that had a wierd gum problem. By the time he was 3 years old the vet had to take out all his teeth, but 2. I waited to take out the last 2 because they wanted $800 a tooth to take them out. They were bringing in a dental surgeon. I couldn't afford that! So he had to suffer for the last 2 yrs with splitting infected gums. Luckily enough the teeth got loose enough the vet was able to do it and we had the last 2 teeth taken out last month for a lot lot less money.

I'm sorry your dog is hurting......If you want to make him feel better, feed him a cat....You might have to kill it first seeing how he ain't on top his game at the moment.
WHAT? Hey, I AM sorry the dog is hurting! Cats are dog food.

keith your a bad boy and Santa is going to bring you coal this Xmas.
Funny thing is since my cat has no teeth now I have to feed him soft tasteless food. I can only get it through the vet.
It's called " Keith's Kat Khow". LMAO

Many of the reasons why I have always thought many vets to be "better" than regular people doctors. Their patients can't tell them "where it hurts."

And we are still not over it yet. I will send out a doggie prayer that the lord will heal your buddy max and easy your hurting heard Laura.
Here is a picture of my daughters and my best friend, in happier days.

Babs, give me that cat for a month and I can break it of it's eating habits.
It's already close to being a "perfect" cat seeing how it has no teeth. Now all it needs is to lose it's hair and tail and involuntary responses(like breathing).
My neighbor had the "perfect" cat last week....He scraped it off the hwy out front but he only kept it till the garbage truck rumbled by....I told him he always needed a pet and it was perfect for him-that he should keep it.
He replied if he wanted to keep it he wouldn't have drop kicked it out to the hwy.....I understood and handed him a beer.

What a beautiful dog. I am also sorry for your loss. The bond that is built between people and their pets is very strong. (Unconditional love that is always there for you.) When someone is grieving for a lost pet I take it very seriously.

Update:
Max is doing a lot better. He's walking around on 4 feet again. The amputated toe turned out to be cancerous, so they did x-rays to make sure the cancer didn't spread. The vet still has to get the results of the x-rays back from the radiologist, but she says his foot is looking a lot better.
When they had first had to amputate his toe, I was crying hysterically. When I went back for the x-rays, I was a lot calmer. I just sat and worked on a sudoku book while Max was being x-rayed. I guess the staff at the animal hospital was worried about me, because at one point I overheard the vet say to someone, "Oh, she's fine. She's doing a sudoku right now."
Oh, by the way, KFF, I noticed the dog in your photo was a big one. Max is big too. He's part Lab and part golden retriever. When my son Jonathan was about 5, he thought all dogs (including Max) were Chihuahuas when they were babies! (He'd seen a few Chihuahuas and I guess he just thought they were puppies that would eventually grow into bigger dogs.)
