Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me with setting up my stuff. I'm not a pro, just an amateur hack in my basement ![]() I have all my karaoke songs on a single DVD, in divx AVI format, converted from CD+G using Powerkaraoke's software. I can play the DVD on my DivX DVD player, which is hooked up to a standard home audio receiver, which outputs the audio on my home theatre speakers. The video goes directly from the DVD player to the TV. Fine so far. The only problem is, I still have to set up the microphones obviously. I have two cheapo WalMart microphones, both stereo (not XLR) plugs. My question is, how can I get the microphones incorporated into all this? I can only choose one "input source" at a time on the receiver, of course, so I'm not sure how to get the mics hooked up through my receiver in a way that will allow them to be used simultaneously with the DVD player. I also have a second audio receiver that's sitting around idle, so I could incorporate that too if need be. I know this would all be a lot easier with a mixer, but I'd really like to avoid that if possible. I was hoping I could just somehow set this all up with some Y-connector cables and plug adapters from Radio Shack ![]() Thanks in advance for any help... Cheers, Dave |

You are dreaming. You will need a mixer, or something to perform that function. If you have cheapo mics, it won't much matter what you use. You can get a cheap mixer for $40.00, or $90. with effects. I recommend starting with the $40.00 mixer or a complete new PA system. If you are at all serious about karaoke, you will shortly want to get something better, and this will limit your exposure before you take the plunge and buy something that will actually work. |

Definitely will need some kind of mixer to incorporate your mics - best to run the mics & the player into the mixer then into your amp source - which btw a home theater setup is not really recommended, more possibility to blow your good speakers as they are not designed for live vocal. |
