I have a very nice surround sound home entertainment system, anchored around an Ethernet-equipped Yamaha receiver, a 58" DLP Hewlett-Packard TV, and a home-built media server PC running J River's Media Center 12 software. I have over 27,000 MP3s of various genres.

A few years ago I came across an expensive karaoke processor--a black box of sorts--that strips out the vocal from any input source. I believe it came out of Georgia. Anyone know anything about this?

What I'm really looking to do is to duplicate my first and only karaoke experience I had in Florence, Italy. That rig displayed the lyrics on a large screen, with the sound pumped through the club's terrific sound system. I'm wanting such a rig whereby the lyrics are displayed on my HP TV, or via a digital projector should we move poolside.

I mention the media server running J River's Media Center software and my MP3 collection, inasmuch as I know the IDv3 metadata tags can incorporate written song lyrics. So my thinking is that it's possible to build a great, high-end karaoke system around such an MP3 collection.

Any advice? Any specific recommendations? I'm hoping to have this in action for Christmas.

I believe the answer will be the same as the last time you asked the question -- there is nothing like you describe. Maybe someone else here has found this magical thing, but I doubt it as I think I would have heard about it.

Exactly, you are asking a question you already have the answer to.

You MAY be able to eliminate some vocals from some songs - many do not work no matter what type of system you have.  If you want to add graphics to the elimnated vocal, you'd need to save the eliminated vocal file, get a karaoke builder program of sorts & then type out the lyrics - then you import & manipulate the swipes & save as a cdg type file.  Yes it is a little more complicated than I make it.
