I have a HP dv6000 laptop with one Expresscard slot, no PCMCIA.  Obvious a compatible adapter would be needed to in order to use the EMU 1616M on this puppy in the first place... I can handle that.

The real thing I worry about is Windows Vista.  As we should all know by now of the compatability features Microshaft has built into Vista. Has anyone got the EMU 1616M to will work in Vista?  Product Page: http://www.emu.com/products/product.asp ... duct=13552

Hey, if Vista can't run the EMU, it is possible I could upgrade to Windows XP. Oh, but then i'd loss that wonderful built in search index feature. Ahh haa it's so Fuastwaitin' :(

Now, the reason I want the EMU is because of it's amazing features for only $450.00 The DSP of the EMU is capable of stacking multiple DSP sound effects to each individual line. - High quality Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Compresor / Limiter... over 600 presets of effects and it doesn't end there.  The effects are editable and more can be added. I want an EMU card.  :worship:

Thank you,

Kevin Smith

I don't have the EMU, but I got Vista, and it pretty well sucks in my opinion. Lots of computers come with only 1G of ram, and I know you need at least 2G with it....better off with more than 2 though......the EMU looks awesome, thanks for sharing......johnny :handshake:

I don't think you will find any Windows Vista 32-bit laptops with more than 2Gb of memory. Windows Vista 64-bit can use 4gb and more memory but it also comes with more issues to deal with.

I have read that the EMU 1616 is capable of applying up to 16 different effets simultaniously per chanel without using any CPU power. That's a lot of DSP processing power from that little box. One con though is that you don't direct access to all the settings. You have to use a mouse adjust the EMU.  However, I'd like to know if I can connect a MIDI controller and us it to directly control the DSP software of the EMU.

I am most interested in the EMU's compressor / limitor effect for the mic inputs. My current setup does not have this. And just last week a drunk screemed to the top of his lungs into the mic and the system has never been the same since. I get a buzing noise at certing high frequencies now. Very anoying and I don't have replacements for everything so it will take me quite some time to find which compnent has crapped out.

This drunk did what he did on purpose it seemed. It seemed to me he was trying to damage my equipment and I had to yank the mic away from him. I wonder how I can stop them from doing this. I don't get paid much to put on the event and I can't afford to keep buying new equipment. Perhaps karaoke participants need to sign a contract before they can be allowed to practice? hmmm... something that binds them to pay for any damages they cause to the equipment. Maybe I could write this agreement into the song request tickets and have them sign and agree to it.... and if they don't agree they go play somewhere else.

.

You could have pulled the fader on the mic channel down, and he can screamed his lung out without damage to your equipment.
