Im wondering if anyone has used the Soundcraft Gigrac powered mixers? I currently have a Mackie 808s and love it, bit to keep it safe it is mounted in a large case that is quite heavy and bulky. the GiGrac 1000 is 1000 watts so the power is close. Ive used soundcraft pro mixers in the past (32 channel) and liked it about as much as I do the mackies that Ive also used. I like the size and portability of the gigrac and it has its own built in case, thats a big plus. the soundcraft is also about $250 cheaper. all the reviews I have read online give it 5 stars but im curious what others here may have found. I personaly would stay clear of the 600 just because of the 2 channel EQs on the input channels. it would work but I like the 3 channel. |

I don't have any first hand experience with the Gigrac, but I doubt Soundcraft would allow their name to be put on junk. I will point out that the 1200 watt rating of the 808 is @ 2 ohms and the 1000 watt rating of the Soundcraft is @ 4 ohms. I have used some Soundcraft mixers in the past and would have nothing negative to say about them, actually I have found them to be very nice in both sound and quality. Perhaps you can get one from one of those places with a 30 day return policy. I'd be real curious if the preamps in the Gigrac are as nice as the ones they use in some of their mid level boards. I wish I could have been of some help, but if you do end up with the Soundcraft, let me know how you like it. |

for tax reasons I will not be buying till after the new year. but I do nead to send my mackie in to get some repairs done while under warranty (it has a bad 1/4 input on one channel). I had planed to buy a mackie 406m to get me through that time, and also for my second system. looking at the gigrack they seem to be the only thing on the market in the same range as the mackie. another question that comes to mind..Being that soundcraft and crown are owned by the same parent company do the gigrack amps use a crown power amp?? if so is it a decent one or is it one of those piece of $hit red or blue faced boat anchors they sell so cheap? those power amps would change my mind about the gigrack. |

Like stated above, I have no experience with the 'Gigrac', but have also used their little Spirit Folio 4 board, their 24,32 & 48 channel board both live & recording & have never had a complaint. Mackie is still my personal preference, but would buy another Soundcraft without hesitation. |

well I bought a new mackie, BUT still looking at the soundcrafts for the near future. I got a new mackie 406m for such a low price it was pathetic. it will pay for itself in 3 shows that I wont even be at! I did find out that the power amp is NOT crown as I had wondered. it sure would have been cool if they had used them , being the same company. Our local GC has the 600 watt on the shelf, but the 600 watt only has a 2 chanel EQ on each mic chanel. not enough power for my main system either |
