Post subject: | Conversion from laserdisc to DVD |
Hi guys, I have the entire Pioneer Karaoke Laser Collection and I want to preserve it in DVD format. As far as I know, I have two options: (1) do the convertion using a DVD Recorder (standalone unit), or (2) do it by first tranferring the videos to a PC and then to a DVD. Question: Do you have any idea about the resulting quality of the produced DVD's? Which are the advantages of one alternative with respect to the other? Help will be very appreciated. Julio |

I personally ripped a couple of my lasers to computer... For my purposes, I did do an avi compression... to me the quality is just fine! I've not done the copying to DVD... |

Thanks for the comments. Do you know where can I find step-by-step information to convert laserdisc to DVD via a PC? |

I converted all my LD to DVD, about 100 of them, and it wasn't too hard. I didn't do it on computer, I bought one of those DVD burners and hooked up the LD player to the burner using analog signals for both video and audio. First I recorded to the Hard Drive internally, went in there and manually set the chapter mark (this is where I spent most of the time), then burned to DVD. I made two copies of each so that I don't have to do chapters again, just burn from DVD to DVD. Kept the other ones in archive and using the second copy. It's not hard to do, just time consuming. One more thing. The volume on the LD is lower compared to CD+Gs when I am playing them. I constantly have to adjust the volume on the DVDs on my mixer, often having to maximize it before it's acceptable. I don't know if you can fix that using the DVD burner. You may be able to do it on computer. Good luck. |

Thanks a lot Eben, I decide I'm gonna do a sample in both ways, through a PC and via DVD recorder, and then compare them. By the way, the AVS Video Converter is great at converting, adjusting, spliting video files. |

Pioneer made about 25 DVDs from the lasers. Look for them on ebay..It could save you some time. It's not the entire set..They stopped half way through the project.. |

pioneer made a HELLUVA lot more than 25 dvds. PDKs... anywhere from 12-15 songs each PDL (standard Library Vol 1-18 - 25 songs each) PDL (Country Library Vol 1-4 - 25 Songs each PDV (assorted Volumes - 15 songs each) the problem is, you can't get them anymore... only at some stores that are selling them from their backstock... |

I was refering to the original 57-28 song disc set. + the country discs. I think they redid the first 25 discs. I don't know if they did any of the country stuff or just the rock discs. So if he could find the first 25 he could save some time. |
