Hi all, I've got this HUM dilemma which is wrecking my brain! The problem is that when I plug in my Dell 5800 into my system I get the HUM, whereas when I plug in my Acer 4670 there's no HUM. It's not a question of lifting the earth as the same problem occurs even when running on batteries. My OS is XP Pro on both laptops and Pentium 4, 1.25G Ram on the Dell and Dual Core, 1G Ram on the Acer. Any help and suggestionsd forthcoming will be greatly appreciated. Thank You, CJD |

Googling Dell 5800 I get memory Are you using headphones out on the Dell? (it is hotter than line could be floor noise in which case it would sound more like eggs frying) Does the out volume control the hum? Are you using a mixer (what brand model?) Where is the pre set? |

Make sure you have no signals from any other source(cable, tv aentenna...etc) comming into any of your TVs or monitors, even if it's a separate input into the tv.....not necessarily your problem, just something to always keep in mind....also could be a program running in the background.....check your task manager.....see what's all running |

I had hum using a laptop (HP) connected to a Peavy amp using 1/4" balanced cables, I brought a hum eliminator: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Rolls-HE18- ... 1124895.gc And hooked it up using the 1/4" jacks, still hum... Changed the connections to use RCA and no hum BUT had to use the Rolls Buzz Off Eliminator with the RCA plugs to elminate the hum. If we just used the RCA cords without the hum eliminator we would still get hum, It even got rid of the noise we were getting when we had the power cord plugged into the laptop. We did this all without lifting the ground. |

I have a hum through my speakers with and without my laptop plugged into the system. Someone at work told me I should plug my speaker into a UPS battery backup (running on battery) and see if I still get the noise. Someone else suggested I use a 3-prong grounding adapter (don't use ground wire) and see if this stops the hum before paying for a hum eliminator. I haven't tried either yet, but will tonight. I'll let you know either fixes the problem. |

If you are running powered speakers and using c0-ax with single conductor (1 wire and shield) You will get hum.. It is best to run balanced or use 2 conductor with the proper hookup for un-balanced Give us the info on your system (amp speakers etc..) |

Hi all, Sincere thanks to all of you who answered to my problem. 
I am happy to tell you that I managed to get rid of the hum almost completely ('bout 95%) through fine tuning my Behringer mixer controls (high, mid, mid low and low) and what's left of the hum is so negligible that it's almost un-audible. Thanks again for your help. Regards, CJD
