I am looking to upgrade my powered mixer for more power; I play some out door gigs; 50 to 100 people and want more power; I am using a mackie 408m and 4 PR15'S and it does fair but could be better.
I am looking at mackie 808m and peavey XR8600 and wondering which is best for the job. Any and all input greatly appreachated; or any other recomendations on other mixers.

You could just get an external amp & run your current mixer from the line out to the new amp & now your speakers connect to the new amp.  If you are running 4 PR15 - 2 per channel I assume - this will drop your overall ohms down to 4 ohms per channel & will raise the power handling capacity to 800 watts.  So you need an amp that is capable of pushing approx 800 watts into 4 ohms.
Look into the QSC RMX2450, Carvin DCM2000, Crown XS700 for starters.  You do not need to replace your entire mixer to upgrade power.

Thanks; for the input; and yes I have looked into  adding a amp but there's not much differance in price between the amp and the powered mixer; and I can sell my mixer and get some of my money back; not to mention more equipment to pack around.

You should be able to get 100-200 for the current mixer selling it like through e-bay.
Your current Mackie only pushes 200 watts per channel into 4 ohms.  If you are looking for a power upgrade with a new mixer/amp, the Peavey is going to be closer to what you will need at 600 watts per channel into 4 ohms.  The Mackie 808 only pushes 450 watts into 4 ohms which would still be underpowering your speakers more than they should.
Another consideration you might look at is the Yamaha EMX512SC, 500 watts into 4 ohms.

Well; I sold my 408 and two of my pr15's and I received a ASI NRG 125 WATT MOSFET POWER at 4 ohms 65 watt at 8 ohms powered mixer; in the deal; so I now have a new queston. Can I get two low watt monitors and run them through the NRG mixer; and hook up a power amp to run my two pr15's that I have left for mains; and if so; how much power do I need to look for to do this; any input appreachated and thanks.
I hope I didn't mess up getting rid of two of my 15's; but thats what it took to make the sale.

THought your goal was for a power upgrade, not downgrade?  I'm confused now?  You just lost about 200 watts of your power.  Are you still looking to get a new main powered mixer?

Yes my goal is to upgrade; thats why I asked if this mixer will handle a external amp. If not than yes I am going to buy another powered mixer.

Well the info on the mixer/amp you listed I couldn't turn anything up so can't answer if you can add an extra amp or not - maybe a full model number.  But once again you are confusing me as you said earlier that you didn't want to have to add an external amp with the good Mackie board.

Also now that you are running only one set of speakers instead of 2 sets is automatically going to cut the overall percieved volume you are going to get by essentially half, even if you do get a more powerful amp.  But with the one set of speakers, they are 8 ohms & the power rating you'll want to match for your amp is going to be 400 watts @ 8 ohms.
