hi, this more more for morgan and others that r going to r that r quiting smoking....
morgan asked if i still see r hear improvements in my voice/singing....the answer is yes, well improvements might be the wrong word to use but i sure hear a difference....as most have said its much clearer, not as smokey, i guess that's a good way to put it....
altho i do seem to have LESS breath, go figure....but i have a lot more energy....
Morgan congrats on ur 10 days...r is a 11 now....i would just say find something to do anything....
people told me oh ur gonna save sooooo much money now that u have quit....BULL
i'm spending all my money on new hobby's just to keep me busy....
first it was bbq, i had to have a smoker, so i bought it....then it was beef jerky, i didn't buy anything for that but i came mighty close.... ll....now there's Hot Tamales, i'm the Good Golly Hot Tamale Man .... ll...so i had to have a lotttttt for that just the machine was over 500.00....but i think its all worth it, its really keeping me busy, and that's what its all about, for me anyway.....
being around cig, doesn't really bother me....but i do get this feeling all of a sudden and i reach for 1 i'm sure the reaching for 1 is habit, but when i find its not there i reallyyyyy want one then...that last maybe 5 sec. then i move on...the key for me is just staying busy...keeping my mind off of it...
i find i am veryyyy hyper now, i'm praying that will go away, but maybe it took 4 packs a day to keep me calm....i don't really no, i can remember not smoking and i thought i was always in a pretty even mood.....
Morgan u can make it, i won't say u have it made yet, but u sure have 10 days under ur belt....just start keeping up with the days, and stay busy....
please post here so i and others can help u thru this....i can't believe i'm sitting here saying i will help someone else quit smoking... ll.....but ty god i can.....
i use to joke around about me quiting smoking and talked about nothing but smoking and quiting but i found that all i was doing was keeping my mind on cig. which was the worst thing i could do....
not sure about ur voice, i haven't been coughing r anything, its just like i had never smoked before other then being very hyper...
how much did you smoke....don't u just love seeing that word DID YOU SMOKE....
just hang in there we're all here to help you....HUGGGGGGGS....Billy

Update, You'll all be pleased to know that As of last week when I started singing, I decided to use the patch... I feel this is easier than starting smoking having to inhale smoke. My plans are to be smoking and buying cigarettes by mid-November

Billy to be honest I dunno how many I smoked...I rolled my own and they tend to go out when you put them down, so the same ciggy could be lit many times...
I am coughing but that is the cold I think...finally went to the doc on friday and he put me on antibiotics for the sinus infection I seemed to develop on the left side and although the yukky stuff that was there has cleared I still have headaches.
Sometimes I find myself mentally rolling a ciggy, sometimes I find my hand just automatically reaching out for the tobacco.
I guess its not helped by the fact that Steve smokes. But then I dont necessarily find my cravings are stronger while he is smoking a cigarette.
I do however find that I am having vivid imaginings of doing something nasty and potentially fatal to a woman I work with. I have never got on with her and my entire angst seems to be aimed at her...I can feel the potential satisfaction of sinking my fist into her solar plexus and watching her drop like a stone at my feet.
Exweedfarmer knows who I am talking about...he wrote a little program for me and named it after her.
The craving to hurt her or in fact leave her with scars, is as strong as the craving to smoke. Does everyone feel like this or am I a tiny bit wacko?

i can't say that i've had that feeling yet morgan, but i do find i'm very short with everyone, i don't mean to be but i feel i have to keep busy so i'm thinking of 10 things at once.....i also found out it's not so much the cig, that i miss as it is other things, like what do i do with my hands, r that extra time i have, if i go int to rest. to get something to go, i normally order and go outside to smoke....now i just stand in there like an idiot....i do feel very out of place sometimes....
my cig, neverrrr just burn up, i wish they had now...
hang in there, if i can do it i'm sure u can....

Im so happy for you Billy !! :oh yeah: :hi5: And Vicki well I know what youre going thru with the anxiousness & anger...I go thru it still ...I have been on Chantix for almost 2 months now & I still have a few cigs a week ( maybe 4) Usually at karaoke...Its not the nicotine I crave its the habit of going outside between songs & lighting up, Or you know when Im mad sad happy full ( almost every emotion) I reach for a cig. But mostly in social settings especially karaoke. I will lick this ! I just have to figure out something to do physically when the craving for the habit comes on. Good luck to all of you who are quitting Im glad we have support here doing it together

not smoking is seriously mucking up my ability to do my job to the best of my ability...I will give it to the end of the week and if I am not sleeping better, in a better mood and back to having creative ideas then I am gonna be a smoker
Better to be an employed smoker who loves her job
than and unemployed purist who is unhappy

It's all part of the withdrawal hun, nicotine is a serious drug and it's gonna take your body time to get adjusted to not having the addiction fed. And yes, bein' bitchy is definitely part of it. We're all still gonna love you and will be here whenever you need

yes we are....
i guess i could describe myself as a light smoker...it varies how much i smoke, according to my stress level...it doesn't feel like an addiction yet, but i know it could easily turn that way...i'm at the beginning stages of menopause though and for some reason smoking calms me down when i feel i'm going over the edge...sometimes....my kids will probably tell you a different story....
i really do feel for you guys though...hang in there....
is cathi the only sane one around here? nahhhhhh....
p. s. can't we start a menopause support group also, i'm sure by the way kappy's been acting lately he's going through it too....

Sanity can become a hindrance when interrelating on the Internet. I learned to transcend it years back.

Vicki - woo hoo good for you girl! Don't give up yet. Just imagine how much worse that sinus infection would have been if you were smoking.
Every time I get sick I just want the cold to be over. Then I remember that if you smoke your cold will last longer. NOT FAIR !!
My big quitting date will be late Jan. early Feb. The law changes here Jan. 1st. I figure it will be easier to quit after I've been forced to smoke less because I can't smoke at work.
I haven't started menopause yet, but have friends that are going through it. I would go to the doctor first to see if there is anything he can give you to get through it easier. I do have one friend that swears by soy milk. http://www.healthcastle.com/herb_soy.shtml. I drink it normally and am hoping it helps.
Here are a couple more natural remedies -
St. Johns wort
Although the herb St. John's wort (Hypericum perforatum)is used primarily for depression, there is some preliminary research on this herb to help people quit smoking.
In one pilot study, 24 people who smoked 1 or more cigarettes a day received St. John's wort (450 mg capsule 2 times a day) plus smoking cessation counseling. After 12 weeks, 37.5% or 9 out of 24 people had quit.
Another pilot study found some effect, but the results were not long-term. Twenty-eight smokers were randomized to receive St. John's wort (300 mg once or twice a day), either once or twice daily for one week before quitting and continued for 3 months after. In addition, all participants received motivational/behavioural support. At 3 months, 18% continued to abstain from smoking. At a 12 month followup, it was 0%. Neither study was double-blind or placebo controlled, so they cannot be used as evidence.
Ginseng
Ginseng has been shown to prevent the prevent the nicotine-induced release of the neurotransmitter dopamine. Dopamine is what makes people feel good after smoking and is part of the addiction process.
