Unless RIAA is representing Sound Choice or others I really dont believe you can put karaoke in the same litigation  concerning mp3 sharing.  This does not mean I condone CDG sharing. Here is the original section of copyright laws.  READ $114 and note the sentence The exclusive owner rights  of copyright of a  sound recording in clauses (1) & (2) of section 106 do not extend  to the making or duplication of another sound recording that consists entirely of an independent fixation of other sounds, even though such sounds imitate or simulate those in the copyrighted sound recording.

You are right, I was referring to MP3 sharing and not karaoke.

But now that you mention it, isn't all the hoopla concerning karaoke CDG's all about the sync rights?

It seems to me that if digital format karaoke was to go to the next level and not show sync'ed words on a monitor and the singers were to memorize the words, these lawyers who are trying to squeeze every penny out of the karaoke market would not have a leg to stand on...Then no one would have to worry about digital format...

Would it still be karaoke if there were no monitors :headscratch: ....

I never use the words from a CDG anyway...although it would probably keep most people from getting up and singing...

Very few probably listened to the whole broadcast. Simple fact of the matter ASCAP is using the same tactics. 220k

These are 2 corps that are using any means possible to cash in before they lose power altogether. They could care less what bar they destroy and they sure as hell dont care about karaoke or KJ'S.  Nobody seemed to learn anything on the youtube thread. Aspiring artists have an outlet to promote their music and cd's and dont need recording contracts with corps that take all their money. Technology has destroyed a few vocations I was in This is life You either adapt or engage in another vocation.

It boggles my mind why anybody here would defend huge corporations that threaten the very thing we love with extinction.

Yes karaoke is Japanese for 'empty orchestra', music without voice.  Doesn't matter if there are monitors or printed sheet lyrics - which was what I learned of karaoke in '90, with cassette tapes & printed sheets of lyrics.

Ahh thanks dude, I wasn't sure where to post it.

It seemed like an interesting radio broadcast.

Hope you don't think I was trying to defend those blood suckers....

I hate anything that stifles the creative process....

I hear what you are saying about technology....It took out the middle man for sure..

But you are right, everyone has to adapt...

I had to adapt to all the work in Manufacturing base being out sourced....

So I think just about everyone our age has lost their vocations of old and had to move on to new one...

For the record...I buy all my digital media....I do not need to steal it, nor do I condone anyone sharing MP3's.

But what they are trying to do with the laws is outrageous.  I do not think someone should be sued for singing a karaoke song in public.   Nor do I think that she should owe 220k...

I was not condoning the woman for sharing MP#'s.  I was condeming the lawyers for twisting the truth about the law.

This just isn't about Copywrite laws... it goes way beyone that dude...
