Well they aren't really supposed to be cd quality - frequency range begins at about 300hz & in best aquality mode goes up to 7.2khz, what are you using it for or expecting out of it? They are designed for general recording like lectures, ideas, seminar type things & stuff like that. Something to keep in your pocket when you remember something, and record the thought rather than writing it down. If you want something that is going to be of a good sounding quality, you have a computer, get one of the free recording softwares out there & plug a mic into the sound card, now you have a digital recorder - even most desktop mics will produce fuller sound than one of those little handheld digitals. |

The instructions that come with the Karaoke 'American Idol' singing course tell you that a digital recorder is the better way to record your progress - assuming there is any ![]() That was the main reason I got one. But at the same time: I'm studying piano, pieces for 4 hands, and it's nice if you can practice it with the other two hands recorded so you can hear what it's supposed to sound like. I'm going to take it take it back tomorrow. I don't know what I would have to buy/add to my laptop, assuming I CAN add it to a laptop, so I can record digitally. But I am certainly going to look into that. If you have more points I can look in to, I'd be very grateful. Thank you in advance. Best regards, Milli |

your lap top IS a digital recorder; Just add in a recording program and a mic. Goto: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/. There are tons of tutorial on how to use it. On that same page are links that will lead you to those learning sites. If you want more tutoral site just google: audacity+tutorial. And most of all it is free......... just buy a mic but for a start you can use the built in mic in your lap top. good luck |

May I suggest an Edirol R-09 Wave/MP3 recorder. Its a bit pricy (about $300.00), but its very portable and the qualtiy is a lot better than I expected from such a small unit. In fact, that is what I use when I record my practice sessions. All of my most recent posts on SS have been recorded using the R-09. The only catch is that I have to burn a CD using the outupt of the R-09 (via the output jack to an auxiliary input port on a CD buner) to capture the reverb feature that the R-09 unit adds to the recording. Good luck in your search. |

Yeah you don't need to spend a ton of money on a little voice recorder, unless you just want it for your pocket to sing whenever. Your laptop will work just fine, like Jian stated, the Audacity program is free & easy to use. Just to get started learning the program & a cheesy desktop mic like http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6836131024 will record your voice equally if not better than any of the little hand helds. |
