Keep an eye out on signs or ask singers at clubs - they will generally know if they are club hoppers.

Don't know how popular Craigslist might be where you are - occasionally I will find contests listed in the "musician" section or in the "events" section - you might post an inquiry on the musician page, asking if anyone knows of any competitions around.

ATTENTION PHOENIX SINGERS!

Do you have what it takes to be a Star?

So You Think You're A Star is a karaoke singing competition presented by CBS Radio stations in Phoenix and Mitsubishi Motors. Performers will be provided a pre-selected list of songs by artists from the station in which they are performing on behalf of. Performers will be competing against listeners from all three CBS Radio stations for some incredible prizes including $10,000 and a chance to perform live at a station concert.

Each CBS Radio station, 94.5 KOOL FM, 101.5 JAMZ and KMLE Country 108 will conduct three stops on the tour, for a total of 9 different opportunities to perform.

You will be performing to a live audience with fully produced karaoke tracks and lyrics. Your performance will be videotaped, recorded and placed upon our contest website for voting. Performers will be judged by individual station listeners on ability to sing and overall performance skills. At each stop along the Performance Tour, performers will be videotaped. Performance videos will be available for viewing and voting for a two-week period beginning on Monday directly following the performance.

So You Think You're A Star is a 12-week contest with nine stops on the Performance Tour. There will be nine Performance Tour events at the rate of one per week. These events will take place at well known shopping destinations around the valley. Please review the comprehensive list of locations, dates and times of where you will find the Performance Tour taking place.

At the end of week 11, voting will have narrowed down one semi-finalist from each CBS Radio station (94.5 KOOL FM, 101.5 JAMZ and KMLE Country 108) for a total of three finalists. Final voting will take place during week twelve, where the remaining three finalists’ videos will be voted for online. One of the three finalists will be crowned the valley's next BIG star at our exciting Grand Finale Performance Tour Event, scheduled for Saturday, December 8, 2007 from 12n-2pm at Tempe Marketplace. The event will feature a Grand Prize Award Ceremony and farewell performances from our three finalists.

Give it your best shot because all contestants will be given only one opportunity to perform.

CBS Radio Phoenix will provide:

On-screen lyrics and background music
All microphones, sound and video equipment

You will need to provide:

Your karaoke singing skills and the ability to perform live in front of an audience
Arrive early!  We will register the first one hundred contestants in line to perform at each event and showcase those videos on the Video Contestant page. We will begin registration at the posted event start time. In the event of rain or weather related issues, the event will be rescheduled for later date.

For those who of you are not compelled to sing your way to stardom, we’ve got an opportunity for you to become a star in a different way.

Click here www.soyouthinkyoureastar.com for details and to view videos of the first three performance events. There are 6 remaining dates from today (October 12) so don't miss out!

I was reading the New York Post  last night while on the train into the city... in the business section, there was an article about a new deal that the "Spotlight Live Restaurant" has signed with Sony BMG.   Starting November 7th, Spotlight will be running karaoke contests and the prize is a recording contract with Sony BMG.  Seems Sony is looking for new ways to find new talent!

Here's the restaurant's home page:
