Yeah, it's definitely a lot of legalese, but that's the world we live in today. You can't fault the guy for aggressively trying to protect his work and likeness, futile as it may be. |

Its like greeting your guest by reminding them not to still anything from your house. |

Well I'm guessing he doesn't have that posted at his front door, . Visitors to websites aren't guests, they're people looking at a website. |

I went to the link and although seem like a lot of BS IT IS NOT tTHE HOME PAGE -- I would think that many if not all artists has some of the same LEGAL page that one seldom reads unless your are looking for it |

Whether it is the home page or not. I do not have a legal page on my site. When I shake your hand son that is the way it is and the way it's gonna be. That is not country or anywhere near it. He is an $sshole. If he is a hip hop bopper F%%^^ druggie I might understand it Not a country singer. He aint country!!! |

Just because he sings the song, it doesn't necessarily mean he owns the rights to it. |

How's that cave you've been living in for the past 50 years? You may honor a handshake, but it's monumentally stupid to think that everyone else does. There are a lot of country people who will rip you off just as quickly as any other type of person. |

As far as I am concerned his notice did nothing to "protect" his copyright more than is already the case with any other copyright music. Sure it makes a big stink about what you "can't" do with his music, but anyone who knows the law would already know or have guessed most of it. It all comes down to the fact that he is selling a product. It is just as illegal to rob any store (or illegally copy) any product. But if you have a couple of armed guards at the door of a store with shotguns, it just makes everyone uneasy including the legit shoppers. The guards (or warning) scare off an occasional thief, but it makes all of the other customers nervous. For the real music pirate his words mean nothing. They know they are already breaking the law. For the other people who buy his music legit he just looks paranoid. I would expect such paranoid statements from some artists that have a basic distrust for our system as part of their core "theme", but for a normal artist a statement like "all songs copyright...." should suffice. I would not blame Garth, he (or more likely one of his managers) probably just hired a lawyer to put a disclaimer on his site, and that lawyer working by the hour needed 4 hours of billing time to pay for his overpriced car payment. Garth may never have even read the statement, or if he did, thought after paying a $1000 to a lawyer for such a statement he had to use it, even if it looks silly to a normal human. |
