I've looked through the Techie Forum and didnt see anything pertaining to this... so here goes ( no pun intended ) First I'll make a list of my system, then maybe someone can give me a few hints on what Im looking for here. My system consists of Two wireless Shure 58's, and one corded Sennheiser E835. A StudioMaster 12 Mixer, JVC single disc player, DoD Demension 3 Vocal Processor, BBE, Tascam 700 cd-rw Recorder, Crown 600 Amp and a pair of JBL JRX 125 Speakers. All of which is in a 12 x 16 room. Everything seems to be hooked up and wired properly. Recording Volumes have always been elusive going into the Cd Burner for some reason, even with the recording level knobs turned full clockwise to what should be the highest recording volume available on the Cd Burner. I've tried backing off the Amp and increasing the master volume on the mixer, I don't have digital gear so I've set the Cd burner on analog recording. There just doesnt seem to be a way to get an increased recording volume to the burner.... any suggestions? |

What is the exact model of your mixer, I found links to about 3 different models under Studiomaster 12. If it's the little 1 unit rack mount, you may want to consider a different mixer as it's not designed for recording. |

I am not a KJ or a pro at recording, but do have a Tascam and have also had volume problems when you go to put you work on a CD. Most of the time I have to send it all over to the PC and add gain and all the FX. I have found that I must push the master fader all the way to the top if I want full volume. And even then, if I ripped the WAV off of a CD, the volume is low. My Tascam has 3 marks to go higher from the usual zero of a mixer... One notch = 5db's... Run the pre-amp as hot as you can stand...a few clips is ok...I mean make it HOT!!! |

Norm is -6 db then mixed and and mastered .. |

Ya that is what I have read...some say they master at -3db...but whenever I use that setting on my Tascam, the volume is WAY to low...and when I look at the digital wave...it is very weak.... I think it is something to do with the scale on the Tascam master fader bar... Whenever I cut a CD and try to listen to it on my car CD player you can barely hear it with the volume cranked all the way up... |

Lonman, all I can find even on the operators guide is that its a Studio Master Logic 12, compact mixer. I have the Tascam getting its recording signal from the left/right tape output (record) which has a Nominal output of -10dBV. I'm assuming that this is adjustable? either up or down? I wish there was someone in my local area that could jsut show me hands on. =( |

With or without a compressor all professional studios track at -6DB. which means vocal drums etc.. |

I have found the problem with the recording volumes. There are two ways on the TASCAM CDRW 700 to adjust these although, if you are just recording with analog and not digital its easy to miss the second way to adjust the recording volume because its in a different section of the manual. Both the Analog and digital signal are preset on this unit from the factory and you have to adjust them both even when just using an analog input. The digital input still requires an adjustment. Doesnt make much sense to me either, but once I adjusted the digital input signal it fixed the problem I was having with los recording volumes. Now if I can just figure out the voice effects and the mic to music ratio... I'm starting from scratch here and slowing learning all of this stuff.
