I researched this and posted a question on the Winamp Technical Forum, but have not found a solution.  Thought some of you Winamp users may have some insight.

I’m wanting to play vob files with Winamp, but am getting a black screen and no audio.  I downloaded ffdshow, so I should have the necessary codecs to do this.  Also, these vob files will play fine with WinDVD, so I do not appear to have any inherent file or hardware problems.

For background, these vob files are from Karaoke songs that I recorded from an analog input on my home DVD recorder.  This was a workaround for trying to get tracks from a Karaoke DVD I own into a format that I can add to the media library in Winamp.

I guess another option would be to transcode these vob files to avi or something Winamp will more easily recognize.

Thanks.

I was having somewhat similar problems...made an attempt to learn about and understand codecs  :bigcry:   finally stumbled across this codec package and installed it...

Might work for you also.

I gave up on vob files and have been transcoding to avi (Xvid and uncompressed LPCM) with the FlaskMPEG program.  It's somewhat time consuming, but the files are smaller than the vob's and everthing's working fine in Winamp now.

A note to anyone who tries this with FlaskMPEG - make sure your vob files' audio is not uncompressed LPCM.  It will not recognize this audio in the source files, although it will transcode to LPCM in the output avi files.  I learned this the hard way, and had to re-record some vob's with Dolby Digital for the audio, which FlaskMPEG recognized just fine.
