Post subject:  Karaoke Regulars

We always seem to complain about the few bad apples at karaoke. I would just like to take the time to praise the special regulars who make our jobs worth doing.

I have had the most wonderful people at my shows and made some tremendous friends through the years. They are always there to help out in a pinch and never complain. I know my back is being watched and know if something bad would break out they would protect me. I am very greatful for the sincere friends I've made through my job. Johnny is one of those people!

I think we should share some stories of memorable regulars. I'm feeling quite sentimental today and thankful for all the people who have been good to me the past years while doing my job. These are the people who keep us from quitting and make us remember why we do what we do.

I dont do a karaoke show, but I do shows with  a live band every week.  I get to visit my friends karaoke show every now and then if that counts! I would like to thank the people who come to my shows week after week.  I have a large group of people who never miss a show. They have become personal friends of mine. I can look out across the audience from the stage and I can tell if someone is missing or not, even when there are 3 or 4 hundred people at the show.  When my dad died last October, there were literally hundreds of people who came to visit the hospital just to sit in the waiting room to support me and my family.  I found an incredible strength from their love towards my family. These people come week after week. They cheer and clap, and always have something good to say about every show.  They buy my cds and call the radio stations to have them play my music. I can guarantee, I dont have to do these shows for a living. I have a very good job as a school teacher. I can, however, tell you that the reason I do these shows is because of these wonderful people.  They are the reason I can put on a smile, strap on a guitar and step up to a microphone week after week.  Because of them, I never get tired of singing their favorite songs or taking time to listen to some story they want to tell me after a show. I own a lot to these people and I let them know it at the end of every show. --Mike

Mike - That's exactly what I was talking about. I was hoping more people would have the same experience we've had, but it looks like we are the fortunate few.

I am a very people oriented person. I believe the richest person on earth is the one who has a lot of friends. I really do care about people. I take a real, haertfelt interest in the people who come to my shows week after week. They are there because that like me.  That is a great reason to care about them! I am always meeting someone new too.  I just love people! --Mike

Don't know how I missed this one - I have to tell you that the reason I have continued to host after all these years, and maintain a full-time job during the week, is the singers who come to our shows - no matter what kind of place we set up in, they're there. Our very best friendships, believe it or not, have developed through karaoke. I know that there is something physical that happens when a person sings (endorphin release) but I also know that there is an emotional connection that develops - singing is something we do that reveals a little more about us than just talking might.  For some reason it is easier to do a little more for thse people than I might for someone else. I do a lot of weddings for people who come to sing with us - they feel good about inviting us into that part of their lives and I always tell them how much I appreciate that they're letting us be part of their lives.

They are the reason we have our gigs, and I don't know of many other activities a person can do that might put them in contact with such great people. Something about them singers.....

most of my regulars have crashed on my couch (or floor) at least once!  several of them go to the lake with us during the summer.  a few play golf with me from time to time.  we hunt together as well.  most of my regulars have become friends rather than patrons.  in fact we had this conversation tonight.  i expect all of my singers to become "regulars" and to become friends as well!
