it's true they are doing one concert only for charity in London tickets just 125 pound but it will be a lottery draw for tickets only 18,000 distributed...what a blast it would be to be there!!!

I heard a rumor about it a while back, so apparently it's true. I also heard that Plant and Page were actually going to allow John Paul Jones to appear with them for the first time in ages. It's probably safe to assume that Jason Bonham will be taking over for his dad. Should be a real good show.

I posted a link in the Music and Musicians thread.
(the actual articles and interviews with band members in Musicians thread)
The British band will play a one-off show at London's 22,000-capacity O2 arena Nov. 26.
The O2 show is a tribute to Atlantic Records co-founder and chairman emeritus Ahmet Ertegun, who died Dec. 14 2006, aged 83. Led Zeppelin's heavyweight manager, the late Peter Grant, signed the band to Ertegun's Atlantic in November 1968.
The Who's Pete Townshend, former Rolling Stone Bill Wyman, Foreigner and Paolo Nutini will also perform on the night. Profits will benefit the Ahmet Ertegun Education Fund, which provides scholarships to universities in the United States, United Kingdom and Ertegun's homeland, Turkey.
Tickets costing £125 ($254) will be allocated on a lottery basis through the www.ahmettribute.com web site.

I'm thinking this will be their first concert in the digital era of music. Should be interesting since their best work was in the studio. My guess is there'll be A LOT of electronic tweaking going on in order to help Plant sing his higher parts.
Doubt he can reach "And as we wind on down the road", or belt out "You to me, I'm your lonely one" and constrict his throat enough to hit "I felt the coldness of my winter'
... these days ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif)

it would be such a shame if they could not get close to their former glory, but surely surely they wouldnt be doing it if they werent confident of pulling it all off
I will be one of the first to buy the dvd

This should be a really good show. Are they playing live to promote any recent recording? Why hasn't John Paul Jones played with Page and Plant for ages -- was there some problem? Supposedly details about the concert will be posted on www.RobertPlant.com -- I haven't checked there yet myself. I also heard something about Robert Plant recording a song with Alison Krauss. I'm trying to imagine what that would sound like. Wekk of course Plant and Zeppelin have done acoustic material before.

Vicki, Might be possible. Did Plant smoke ? Has he since quit ? Even in concert he couldn't handle his higher parts live well at all, They were great in the studio, but Plant struggled live to hit those parts shortly after the VERY early 1970's.. I'm sure THEY will collectively pull it off, but it won't be him doing his great signature work live, BUT assuming it is WOW, what a comeback !!! People will be floored, that'll be evidence that rock and roll musicians CAN not only exist into their 60's, but exist in better form than what they put themselves thru in their 20's. HAHAHA.. Might be whomever the drummer is (I didn't read the article I posted in the MM thread yet), likely will be somebody from a good enough zep coverband to carry them thru the Plant tough parts assuming it's not Bonhams son. Another consideration of course is he will actually tape in his higher parts and they'll make some sort've show out've then and now toggling between A/V from the late 60's early 70's to present live singing of his parts. There've been concerts where certain parts are taped. It'd still be a great concert ! Can't imagine it won't be a pay per view event also tho !!
THe details and announcements are posted in the LZ.org link on my site.. Relatively recent interviews with Zep themselves. Plant will be 63 years old during the concert.. MY GAWD !!

I'm thinking they will pick and choose their songs carefully to make sure they don't do something they can no longer satisfactorily pull off. I don't think they'll pre-record parts. If anything for Plant's sake, they may just modify the melody.
Also, unless John Bonham's son has some previous plans, it seems like it'd be a bit of an insult to not use him. He's plenty good enough for the job.

I'd heard the rumors for months but when I read about it on the internet Monday, Metal Monday here no less (how appropriate ![lol lol](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) ), I about went nuts!! Then I read the stadium's teensy capacity of 20,000 thereabouts and I was instantly deflated. So much for my trip to England to see one of my Idols, I'm crushed :bawling:

Yeah, TV will pay big bucks on PPV for this event, and if this money goes to the Amedt Erl????? foundation I'm sure it will be consented to.

Here's a good article on what this Led Zep concert is all about. Ahmet Ertegun was the founder of Atlantic/Atco records and helped a lot of artists become pretty darn famous. Plus I guess he was a great guy all around!

I can only assume that perhaps it was a simple math thing, like money divided by two is larger than money divided by three ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) I don't believe Jones has been involved in any of the prior Plant Page endeavors. As far as I know there wasn't any bad blood involved. Quote: I'm thinking this will be their first concert in the digital era of music. Should be interesting since their best work was in the studio. All and all though I'd list them in my top five of all time greatest bands. They were from the era when bands could become huge on their own merits and creativity as opposed to the crap factory that record labels have created now.( and then have the nerve to complain about declining profits) Those were the days, imagine daring to be different ![LOL LOL](./images/smilies/emot-LOL.gif) . And wasn't he looked at as the "frail" one of the batch ?
They were jokers those guys. Didn't they take turns throwing one-another out've tour buses and running each other over or something like that ? One of them had a close call, I forgot the details

not tryin to burst anyones bubble, but they got together with young bonham and the original lineup in the early nineties at the live aid festival (i think thats where it was) and they were HORRIBLE...even they admitted it but blamed it on the monitors...so buyer beware...this is 20 years after that..how much better can it be...but what the hell do i know, im about to plunk down a hundred bucks on a VanHalen reunion show that i KNOW is gonna be a trainwreck ! ![dancin :dancin:](./images/smilies/emot-dance.gif)

I suppose it's paying for nostalgia, and to see history (even if it's the caboose of the train pulling away that's all a person will be viewing at this particular concert), I would hope nobody expects to hear a reincarnated group of musicians that were playing on Houses of the Holy and prior (assuming listeners went to an early 70's Zep concert they'd have realized that even THAT live group at that time couldn't pull off the popular studio work live). When you think about what LZ was given the energy, their dynamics, it almost poses a paradox having men in their mid-60's trying to recreate the sound EVEN assuming the men are LZ, it just doesn't seem possible for senior citizens to pull off the energetic but drugged out early style of classic LZ. Page and Plant have been playing all along I suppose but HOW can men in their 60's play 60's zep ??? To see whether this is possible I might pay 50 bucks !
The fact that the Moody blues and Eagles can pull off their music spectacularly IMHO doesn't mean I'd expect to hear a spotless rendition of LZ performing "This Song Remains the Same" or the heavier earlier album songs. "All of my Love", "The Rain song", "Thank You', and of course "stairway" people will hear. My guess is Plant is going to have a female vocalist or two along with him for the higher parts.. Either that of perhaps borrow Sammy Hagar ?????
Thing is, I'd have lost A LOT of money assuming I were to bet that the Stones live were going to be able to perform as well as they have ! After-all how long has Keef been dead ? close to 40 years ? And he can still play; Add Ron Wood and they are dynamite still. Some of these musicians can really play as long as nobody freaks them out by informing them it's no longer the 1960s.

I've been trying to figure out how modern science can recreate LZ, and I started wondering if Hypnotic regression coupled with dopamine enhancing stimulants might do the trick and turn these guys into their past selves for one concert.
