you have to have a burner capable of reading the subcode of the karaoke file to play them off the hard drive. I use audiograbber to do the karaoke ripping to mp3+g... do some searching on the archives... you'll see this mentioned several times! |

I just started this process myself. I stared with Audiograbber (freeware), but got some jumbled text. So I bought Powerkaraoke CDG Burner for $40...no jumbled text so far, but it I have had some problems with the last track of a few discs getting a bunch of high level digital noise added to the end of the track. I went back and did those with Audiograbber. My laptop will not rip the graphics, but my old desktop will. You will know it worked if you don't get ASPI errors and if you are able to create .cdg files for the graphics. I'd try Audiograbber first to see if your your drive will work. Also, I use Winamp with the CDG plugin to play Karaoke mp3/cdg's from my laptop. |

These were probably multisession discs -- you may use 'Enable multisession disc detection' option in Settings dialog for such cases. |

Sorry to derail the original post a bit... What exactly is a multisession disc? And can I keep that function enabled as the default since I don't know how to tell if it's multisession ot not? The tracks that get the noise added to them show up as several minutes longer in the track listing screen. But thus doesn't happen with Audiograbber for some reason. Nonetheless, I'll try your reco and report back. |

my dvd cd rw drive will not lift the grafics off of a cd+g disc even with audiograber. does this mean i will have to purchase a stand alone cd+g drive and if so what are some good brands for around 250.00 or so. |

You need to find out if your dvd writer can read the graphic subcode. I do with Nero toolkit. This is how it look: Drive Information ----------------- Drive : TSSTcorp CD-R/RW SH-R522C Type : CD-RW Recorder Firmware Version : TS04 Buffer Size : 2 MB Date : ? Serial Number : ? Drive Letter : F:\ Location : 1:1 Mechanism : Tray Read Speed : 52 X Write Speed : 52, 48, 40, 32, 24, 16, 10, 8, 4 X Read CD Text : Yes Return C2 Pointers : No Read CD-R : Yes Read CD-RW : Yes Read DVD-ROM : No Read DVD-RAM : No Read DVD-R : No Read DVD-RW : No Read DVD+R : No Read DVD+RW : No Read Digital Audio : Yes Read CD+G : Yes Read VideoCD : Yes |

Multisession discs have additional data or audio session. This looks like a regular disc to karaoke and CD players, but computer drives are confused (what is it for I am not sure -- maybe to prevent copying such discs). You may have 'Enable multisession' on at all time -- it is disabled by default because it may cause problems with FreeDB access on some machines. If you do not experience such problems there is no need to switch it off. |

Get KJpro and cdgautoname f you can get it for these discs that may not be accessful via freedb but might be available on KJpro's database. I will say this - The quality of the rip rivals the rip you woulfd get with Hoster. |
