( I did a quick search of the three pages of this forum hoping I could post this is a past headphone related thread, couldn't readily find one so here goes) I need decent headphones. Does this look reasonable ? Are these decent or are there less costly comparably featured headphones ? Based on the reviews they look acceptable. I haven't a clue. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0001FTVDQ/ref ... scom957-20 |

For a little more, i'd actually go with these. http://www.amazon.com/AKG-Acoustics-K24 ... 408&sr=1-2 Very accurate sound reproduction & also a favorite of MANY recording studios in the nation. |

Thank you both. I'll look into these options. I WOULD rather pay a little more for a better product. That's the way I am. |

Ollie, you've got me confused. What are you saying about the 555 ? Isn't the 555 what I referenced initially ? I'd rather go with Lonnies pick assuming such since I know he has EXTREMELY sensitive accurate hearing. Is it safe to assume you were saying that Lonnies pick regarding the 240 is cheaper than the 280 (not the 555 as you stated) ? |

I dont know Kappy ask lonnie but I was thinking the 280 was even better yet.. Maybe not You would be happy with either one. Right now I'm trying to Charm a mix on cheap cans and I cant hook up a speaker and going nuts With either of those I d have better chance. |

OK, I now understand what you are saying Ollie. When I first saw the price on the Sennheiser HD-280 it wasn't the reduced price so I assumed it to be out've my league at over 200 bucks. I see it can also be had for around $99 on sale. So both the AKG 240 and Sennheiser HD-280 can be had for around the same price from what I'm researching. I'll let Lonnie let me know his opinion and go from there. My purpose would be just listening to music in general, NOT specifically "Guitar" lab related. |

The 240 he mentioned gets rave reviews and is highly respected. I noticed in checking out the 240, it's also listed under 240S. Is this the exact same spec headphone ? I have no probs going up to around 130 or-so for good headphones. I just wouldn't use them enough to feel justified in spending more. Primary use will be listening to classic rock on my Denon DTS system.. Little more. I won't be needing them to mix, yet with an adaptor I suppose listening to computer digital music will also be a good option to have. I'm sure like so many other things, different headphones with differing specs are better for certain apps. I just want a generally decent SINGLE pair of headphones that can handle a pretty broad spectrum of use halfway decent. Primary use will be to listen carefully to music (such as online too) without having to deal with extraneous noise on lower volumes as well as higher volumes.. I like the earcup-type feature on the K240, Seems a better seal than the 555. I had a pair of Koss that I really liked. Nothing costly, but like all things over time, they're now in headphone heaven. I'd like decent spec headphones but another fact we deal with as we age is that certain frequencies drop from our range of hearing too. Naturally it's tough to know whether I'd be as satisfied with earmuffs that have 9 dollar Phillips ear-buds in them vs 300 dollar items that are quite sensitive. I just want decent all around headphones..Sure there's some hearing loss |

http://www.guitarcenter.com/shop/product/American-Audio-HP-700-Professional-HighPowered-Headphones?full_sku=103221347 These are the ones I bought and I love them...... Nice quality at a good price for an enclosed headset... They come with extra jacks, a spare set of ear pads and a pull string bag... Fold up nicely..... They are so powerful, you can set them on the desk like speakers and listen to your mix. This is very helpful for me with my hearing loss...but they will never be a 300 buck headset either...some reviews said they have had problems with theirs, but I have not...yet... |
