I'm looking at this mic, what do you all think for vocals?

I'm thinking never buy anything from Nady. Have you tried their mics, or read reviews about their equipment?

I know a kj who purchased a board, and a power amp by NADY..But i think i'll pass.....But to answer your question. I have a ribbon mic for recording, i seldom use it, condenser is best for recording, Dynamic for live vocal work.

Usually you do a dynamic mic for live vocals, and a large-diaphram condensor for recording.

If we knew what your budget is, that would help. I am guessing low because you are looking at Nady.

The best cheap dynamic mic I know is the Behringer XM8500, $20 but still sounds good and doesn't have much handling noise.

For LD condensors, you might look at the AKG Perception 100.

Check out the sm58 thread going on in the discussion forum. If you are looking for a live preformance mic Shure SM58 is about $100 and hard to beat.

I am assuming you want to use them for home recording.

I went to the Guitar center the other day and bought some mics.


I got a condenser and a dynamic.

We went into the studio and set up 3 dynamic mic's.  A Shure 58, an EV and another one, I forget which but it was similar to the others.

The EV required 2" less fader on the board to be at the same volume as the others.

It has a bass boost, where the low frequency amplifies.  So when you sing the low notes with a low volume of air going over your vocal chords, it will give you a little help.  I bought the EV.




While you would not want to use a Condenser mic for live performing, you might want to use a Dynamic for recording.  Each has characteristics that will do different things in the studio.

I am no expert by any means, But this is what I have found in my limited experience.  Some songs work better with a dynamic when recording.  A condenser will set all your vocal flaws in the limelight and you may not want that.  You may wish to hide some flaws and use mic tricks that the pro's do for making your vocals sound the way you want them too.

The condenser mic is a power mic (has its ownamp) It's sensitivy picks up every sound in the room. The room or studio has to be designed and fitted with bass traps and insulation to prevent reverbs etc.  If these conditions are not met then use the dynamic mic.

I agree with everyone who has posted so far and if home recording is your goal I would give this one a pass.  But for professional karaoke use it might be just the ticket because it looks cool.  I did a quick seearch on the web and the reviews I read were very favorable for the price.  Nady is the low end of the market but the best of the low end.

Having sang through both the Nady and Behringer $20.00 dynamics, it is not close. The Nady is poorly made, has large amounts of handling noise, little presense peak, and generally not very good sound. The Behringer XM8500 is head and shoulders above it, much closer to an SM-58 than it is to the Nady.

I have used neither mic so I can't comment.  But just for the record I have not heard a Behringer anything that I would give you 2 cents for.  Opinions vary.  I just thought the ribbon mic looked cool.

Hear a lot of talk about the SM-58 for Karaoke,  however I have the 58, 57, and 48.  The 48 is less costly (although not by a large margin) and reading the specs tonight might that not be even a better choice for Karaoke apps than the 58.  Also given it's lower price point as an advantage.

I havent used the Beringer xm8500 but am gonna get one. Everything ive read says it as good or in some peoples opinion a little better than the 57 and 58...closer to the beta58 in sound. The best part is its 20.00 at Musiciansfriend.com. I know, I am skeptical also, but for 20.00 bucks if it dont sound good I can throw it in the trash...

Sure will.....I will give a review after I've attempted some recording with it.

If you have not made a decision yet or threw the Mic you bought away, I use the Samson CL8. It is awsome!
