I have been looking at various unpowered mixers for running karaoke from my computer (3 mics)

I would like to make it a relatively high quality setup, and I am wondering on which of the following mixers people have had good or bad experiences with.

Behringer xenyx1204
Peavey pv10
Mackie DFX6
Yamaha MG124c

My basic requirements are 3 mono inputs (mics), one stereo input (computer out), and preferably sliders (not knobs) for control. This is so I can quickly see at a glance which mics are on/off. Beyond that I don't want too big a board for convenience of transport.

I am leaning towards the Peavy because I can buy it locally, but other than that I am in the dark on the subject. I had one DJ friend recommend Behringer, but I have seen a couple of negative comments on it on the web. (are they justified?).

I can only speak as to the Peavey and Mackie for personal experience and can say they both are nice, both are quality products and I don't think you could go wrong with either one of them, of course the Peavey has a few more channels as I'm sure you know.

Peavey, Mackie & Yamaha - great board, Behringer, crap shoot, get what you pay for, I won't use them ever again - never had a lasting mixer yet.  My last one lost 3 channels within a year.  Worked with others that lost effects or left or right main channels.  Spend a little more for the quality & better customer service.

DR

You said  " HIGH QUALITY" set up - so by all means go with the most expensive one and it is sure to be the best !

I have used all products in the past Mackie, Peavey, Yamaha and currently using BEHRINGER. If money is no object I would go with either the Peavey or Mackie but to be honest they should all do a great job for you.  Look at which FEATURES you want or need.   Don't be afraid to go with the Behringer. (whichever you choose buy from a source with a good return policy )

Liberally Return policy is important for not only the Behringer but also the other brands too.  Within 45 days your sure to wake up and realize that you just paid $400 for a mixer when you could have bought one for $199 with the same features and quality  :)  :)

Jam is so cute with his Behringer has the same features & 'quality'.   :hi5:  I'm always in the mood for a great laugh  LMAO .  If I recall he even had 2 or 3 models before he found one that worked - I may be mistaken with someone else.

Here are a couple of already running mixer topics.

Lon,
The Behringer quality has always been under scrutiny and for good reason I can not argue. I did have  a powered mixer I purchased that was DOA once.  But as you agree (don't make me get the archives)  all brands have a percentage of rejects and returns. Behringer might have more than the rest but but there is no comparison that the Behringers offer more features for the dollar than any other brand out there. I just don't believe that you have to spend more to get more and better equipment. If money is no object I would always go for a Peavey or Mackie over Behringer.  But I still believe that they (Behringer) have some great products for the money. There is no right or wrong just a choice one makes......

Sure all brands will have a clinker here & there, but not as often.  For the money, you definitely get a bunch of features - probably more than any other mixer in it's size/class, this i'll grant you, but will disagree to the day I die about the reliability quality/sound quality - if they could add this in, i'd be buying them all day long.

I think Behringer is getting better on the reliability issue.

After the comments on this forum and talking to a few musician friends I think I am going with the PV10.

It has the features, and is not a whole lot more than the Behringer in price.

The Behringer 1204FX is 209.99 MSRP
and the PV10 is 299.99 MSRP

I can buy the Pv10 locally for about 240, and it is good to be friends with the local music store.
Besides the PV10 has more chanels (that I probably wont use).

Sure I might save 50-100 dollars, but it is worth something to buy it locally (returns are a whole lot easier than by mail order). I just bought an external hard drive yesterday and it failed after 5 hours of being out of the box... If I did that mail order the return would have been a major pain for me.

Besides 50-100 dollars is somewhere between 6-10 cds even buying at a discount where possible. The cash I am throwing at the cds make the rest of the expenses relatively minor. I figure I should not skimp on the equipment.
