here i am thinking that it's getting KJing working EVERY friday and saturday night and never having a weekend for my wife.  so what do i do?  i go and accept a thursday night gig!

what prompted me to do this?  for starters, i get to run through the house system rather than setting up and tearing down every time.  all i have to bring is the laptop, hard drive, mics, and video montitor(s).  second, the pay is more than my weekend gigs pay for an hour less work.  third, i use to have a few folks that brought their underage kids to my show (this is before i moved to my current weekend gig that doesn't allow ANYONE underage for any reason) and i miss seeing those folks.  fourth, it is even closer to my house than my weekend gig, which i thought to be next to impossible since my weekend gig is less than a mile away....this new gig i can literally hit the building with a rock from the end of my street.  still, i'm  not sure i want the job so i am filling in for them for awhile.....should i take the job permenant?

I am really not a good one to ask. Gigi and I just took the Fri - Sat gig at Mary's and we are wondering why????  It is going to be a lot of fun, especially with Craft fair season coming at the same time.. I'm sure you will be fine and I think it is good to be "filling in" until you decide if you want to do it perm or not.

I work Wed., Fri., Saturday gigs with a full time job. Sometimes it can tend to burn me out a bit. I do get one Saturday off a month which is my only saving grace. I think for you to make a decision like this is personal between you and your family. I know it is hard for me because most gatherings are on the weekend, but you already do that.

If your wife doesn't mind and you think you can handle the burn out issue, I'd go for it.  :hug:

The potential burn-out was the first thing that came to my mind. Then I also thought that it sounds like you WANT to take this gig, but just want some encouragement that it would be the right decision.... so I'd say, if it is what you want to do, I don't see any reason not to... good thing you ARE just filling in for awhile so you can kind of gage if you may become burned out..

My advice? Drop one of the weekend gigs, family is important.

thanks for all the support guys! (and gals)  dropping one of the weekend gigs is not an option since the weekends are the same club both nights.  i DO have someone who fills in for me from time to time and will fill in on thursdays on occasion.  i think it will be fine, but as with Babs, i work a full time day job, too.  anyway, i think it'll be fine!  thanks again!

Is there a chance to have someone fill in for you once in a while. I know having the one Saturday a month off really helps me. Or maybe when burn out does become an issue speak to the bar owner about giving you one Saturday a month off.

Just an idea  :D

Go for it, Steve. Karaoke is in your blood.

I know you own your own business; can you arrange your schedule to have, say, a Monday off? Isn't your wife's schedule kind of non-traditional, too?

However, you need to take a long weekend off and come up and play with us, too!

Update::::::::::::::

Did the first show Thursday.  Very different feeling which is odd, because the bars only a block away.  very early crowd, meaning they left early.  i thought it was me, but the manager says it's always like that.  i guess folks still ahve to work fridays.  also, much different musical tastes.  more of a rock crowd, which is nice.  i like to hear different things once in awhile.

Babs - yeah, my "son" fills in about once a month on my weekend gig...i guess i'd go nuts other wise!

Gayle - i plan on re-arranging my schedule on days after shows.  this kinda came up suddenly so i didn't have that opportunity this time.  Dawn does have a sporadic schedule, too, but we've been plannning to come up for...well since the beginning of summer.  i soooo, wanna see you and Sharon in action!  (i mean running a karaoke show of course!!)  unfortunately we've been ultra busy lately.  she's headed to chatanooga at the end of september and i'm headed to vegas.  soon, though..very soon!
