you'll need to go into winamp on the preferences and pull up the plug-in. It won't automatically open up with the player until you set it up to do so the first time.

when winamp is playing, do a CNTL-P. This brings up your preferences.

Go to options.

Under DSP/Effect you'll see the pacemaker option IF it's the one I use...

Understand too that I'm running an older version of winamp! The newer 5.x version may be set up differently!

I already have a Pacemaker plug-in at home that Chuk installed and have played with it  teeny bit...we just hadn't had a chance to check it out at the club.

Researching right now to see if it will work with Vista. Ugh. Progress sucks sometimes.

"Upgrade" does not mean improvement.  It used to, before Microsoft.

It seems that the Pacemaker Plug in from Winamp is a pitch and tempo change. I have not tried it yet, but does it work the same as a key changer?? I'm looking for a product that does key changes (MTU Keyrite??) but keeps the original tempo.  Going down from a C to Bb is a full step, but with pitch changing there's an infinite variety in-between Anybody??

Too bad keyrite doesn't work alongside winamp as it is by far superior to pacemaker, in my honest opinion pacemaker bites the big one. but that is my opinion on the subject. I'd rather deal with an outside keychanger made by vocopro.
The best outside keychanger was made by pioneer. I had one that was set between my mixer and cdg and/or laser player. preferred it over the ones built into the players which did nothing more that speed up or slow down the play of the disc depending on which way you went on the keychanger.

The key changers built into the Pioneer players were as good as their stand alones, no speeding up or slowing down, this is proven by their Auxillary input on their laser players which you could key change outside sources as well.

The one I saw used a lot was good at -1 and -2, but if you got to -3 or -4 it had definite issues. (I don't typically sing -3 or -4 anymore, so I haven't listened lately to one.)

Downloaded Pacemaker last night, works for a while, then crashes. Plus it'll only work "at the moment", you can't save the key changed version on the hard drive. I'd like to go with Keywrite by MTU,  it seems that has the ability to save the key-changed version. I use  backing tracks for live performing with a trio, not karaoke. Anyone have any issues with Keywrite?? Thanks!

I use both Keyrite and Pacemaker, as they are for two different things.

Pacemaker is a plugin for Winamp to do key changes in real time. (It never crashes on me.)

Keyrite changes the key of a bin file on disk. I use that for burning the key changes for my songs to a bin file for burning a CDG to take out to a karaoke venue.

I understand that MTU Hoster "uses Keyrite", but not so as I can tell. Hoster runs just fine without Keyrite installed, and still changes keys.

the reason pacemaker may be crashing is the version of winamp (2.8) you may be using. I use an older version, and never had a problem with it. I know Tig uses a 5.x version and didn't have any problems with it!

Thanks mickyj and knightshow, I have the Winamp pro 5.2 version, maybe that's the problem. I downloaded the demo version of Keywrite last night, but the way I understand it, it doesn't work with mp3 files. I ripped some songs from a "Just Tracks" disc, they show as a .wma file (??) then when I go under properties, it's an mp3 file. Apparantly Keywrite will not work with either.  Anyone know what to do??  I need to write the key cahnged version to the hard drive, then burn to a disc. Thanks!

With Keyrite, you need to create a bin file, then key change that. As for how to create a bin file, you will need to get some program to do that. I use Microstudio to create one by ripping it from a CDG, but there are other ways.

Went back to the MTU site, seems that Microstudio works with many types of audio files. Downloaded the demo, had no problem listening to mp3 and/or wav files and changing the key, It's the same price as Keywrite, but seems to do a lot more, even writing the changed version to a disc, or the hard drive.  Thanks again everyone for your input.
