Folks may already be aware of this, but thought I'd share. You can save the VCD's "dat" files to your PC and rename with a "mpg" extension. Then simply add to your media library and play from Winamp. They will be the original uncompressed files, so they are pretty large files. However, this is an easy way to get a few "straggler" VCDs on to your PC. I did this with the 1 VCD I own, and it works great. You can also get rid of Multiplex vocals in Winamp by right-clicking on a VCD song in the media library while it's playing -> view file info -> MPEG audio decoder -> pick 1st or 2nd channel (depending on which one has the vocal track, "1st" worked for my VCD) -> pick mono -> apply. You can also set this as the default. |

Just to add to this: You will most likely hear the music from only one side of your system. Your vocal will come from both speakers. To over come this, use 2 mono channels for the music input into the mixer. This way the audio signal will be split to both L and R speakers. Also: You can remove vocal from the track by going to Vol. (at the task bar to the right bottom where the clock is), right click and open Vol Control. Pan (move the balance) either Wav or Play control to L or R. |

The steps that I described will give you mono music from both speakers from multiplex VCD music tracks. I believe the end result is exactly what you would get if you used the multiplex button on a stand-alone player. Correct me if I'm wrong, I beleive the music in multiplex tracks is mono, with the guide vocals in one channel. So, when you remove the vocals, you are running mono music from the other channel through both speakers, but since the music was mono anyway, you end up with the same music as was in the track with the guide vocals. |

True in some cases but not in always; not all discs are recorded the same way. |
