I'm hoping to recreate some songs that aren't available for karaoke.

One is THIS one.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqIVknYECb4

The basic guitar riff is pretty simple. Could easily be done on synthesizer. Same thing with the drums.

Anyway, let me know what y'all think... give out some ideas of songs that could be made, and if there's enough interest.

I have a digital recorder that I could cobble the various mp3s together to try to mix it...

c'mon dudes... IDEARS!!!!

I'll tackle the bass lines -- synth bass or bass guitar.

You'll probably need a click track.  Could be tricky keeping all the parts in sync. Hmm....  I imagine you would do the drums and bass tracks first then layer on the synth and guitar parts.  That's the standard routine.

Still can't follow a lot of your Dad's fiddle songs though!  LOL

What other songs were you interested in making homemade karaoke tracks for Matt?

Gosh.. I don't play anything that's real exciting. I play hand bells.. I don't see me jumping in on any jam sessions with those.   I do play the voice, but I don't think that counts.. cause most of us here play that one....

I'm thinking me, Sharon, and Babs need to get an internet band going... tuba, bells, and spoons.... we could take the world by storm.

The intro sounds like a stock sample from the original Ensoniq Mirage. In any case it doesn't sound to complicated. It appears to be a pretty stock 80's style drum track. I'm afraid I don't have a lot of time right now, i'll be pretty busy through the month of September, but if you still want to play with it in about a month give me a shout. I think I can cover pretty much everything on that cut, or if you just need a particular instrument or part let me know. Good luck

the digital recorder I have has the ability to use virtual tracks... pretty complicated, though. I will play around with the beat and then the drums... those seem fairly simple. My lady Ruthie used to play the guitar... maybe she can help out with the riffs... seems I could do most of this synthesized...

I've always got room for one in my closet.  Those are VERY VERY expensive cherry wood constructed instruments. Probably the most costly of all the woodwind and brass orchestral instruments !  Would love to have one follow me home from the mall sometime..  Never played one either.. Never tried a double-reed, well I did once but it made my lips itch.  Think the thing gave me a rash

You're right Steven, they are beautifully made instruments and VERY expensive.  The fingerholes are very widely spaced and, like brass instruments, you control the octave on some notes with your embouchure.  Of all the instruments I played (clarinet, sax, bassoon, flute, violin) it was by far the most difficult to learn; the buzzing is the simplest thing to get used to.  And the reeds!  Expensive not-so-lil buggers, very delicate also
