I've had no problems with the wireless Audiotechnica from Rat Shack, and if you can find them, the AS990 dual wireless ones.
Rat Shack also sells their RS230, which is a shure mic.

Get Shure SM58 (not the SM58 beta, but that is just about the same, effectively although the parts are different).
They are sturdy, are good with only getting the singing and not the background voice.
For public performance, they are the standard, even for many top acts unless they go wireless.
Ideally if you are going to be a good KJ, DO NOT get a mic that has an offswitch on the mic (shure does make a SM58 with a switch).
Too many people will turn it off by mistake after they sing, and the next singer may not know if it is off or not. Just another annoyance, that many of us have had.
