Hey All !! I found this site, and i couldn't resist joining! =]

I don't have a karaoke machine and I don't want one. I have alot of instrumental versions of songs from Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carey and P!nk... so what I want is to buy a program and a quality sounding mic so i can record songs/demos on my own computer!

I'd like a program that i can go line by line and pick the best one i like and put it together. There are sooo many programs and mics out there, and i figure it would be better to ask you guys because you have programs and mics yourself and have first hand knowledge =]

Please Help =]
Thanks in advanced.

P.S. one i find the riight program i can't wait to upload some songs here =]

As for the program, not sure I use the best. I am currently with Siglos Karaoke, and I see a few features it is missing and a few faults with it.

Mic I am pretty sure that I have what is the best for Karaoke, a Shure SM58. They should go for about $100. They sound good and are what many pro singers use, even major acts.

You may find a decent mic in the $60 range but maybe not, a lot of the $30-40 range ones I do notice the difference. Lightweight, easy to break and lower quality sound.

I have talked to some bands and their SM58s have lasted years of constant use.

Another vote here for the SM58.  They are the mic of choice for many touring bands because they sound good and are almost indestructable.

I don't understand what you mean by going "Line by line."  Putting the best what together?

thanks for the welcome =]

as for line by line, i mean verse by verse?

like for instance kelly clarksons song... "because of you"

Sample Lyric:
"I will not make, the same mistake that you
I will not let myself, cause my heart so much misery"

^^^ I would record "i will not make, the same mistake that you did.." maybe 3 times and pick the best version of me singing that! Like the same way they do it in a recording studio. I hope im explaining myself well lol =]

Gotcha, what you need is a multi track hard disk recorder not a computer.  It will be much easier to use and produce a much better recording and over all sound in the end than a computer.  And while you're buying that order an SM58 too.

You can do good recordings on the computer like stated with a multitrack program.  I like the Mackie Tracktion.

Now your computer will need to be somewhat speedy/powerful for many of the multitrack programs & if it isn't the stand alone unit exweed mentioned is the other alternative.
SM58 is a great mic for karaoke/live and about every other application, however as a recording mic, they aren't going to give the crispness as a decent large diaphram condensor mic like a Rhode NT1

going through an outboard pre-amp like the ART Tube MP Project Series

You may also need a better sound card or interface so you can connect the mic.
