Ok after a bit of reading I have learned

American Idol, Performers Choice and Power Pics are all the same songs as the Sound Choice lines.

Supercore is made up of Pop Hits Monthly, Pop Hits Monthly and Star Disk.

any others???
Am I right about the above?

American Idol, Nasville Star, Performers Choice, Spotlight, Power Picks, Star Series, Reminicsing Series, Foundation, Bricks, B-Flat Cat, Top Of The Charts (Spanish line) - are all made by Sound Choice so yes they would contain the same versions musically/graphically.

Not sure exactly what Supercore uses, but they use other labels - I know THM & SGB/All Hits are a part of their base - but they aren't the same company as far as I know.

Sunfly and LEGENDS discs appear to be the same, if not the same "musically".

I know sometimes the UK musical tracks are used with other uk companies. STTW uses EK as "bought in" tracks, Zoom uses SBIkaraoke sometimes...

I don't think you are right about any of it, and I can tell you that a large number of the SuperCore older songs come from the Pioneer stuff.

I own AIG703 and AIG706 (American Idol) and they don't look like SoundChoice to me -- more like THM. I don't sing any of them, but my wife does at least two.

On sound choices own message board their rep made the claim about american Idol being the same songs.... (dif graphics?).

Now sound choice may have two versions of some songs, but in general they are the same.

My conclusion about Supercore is more "rumor" and is unverified. But apparently they do "recycle" songs. I dont own supercore so it is hard for me to verify. I am just trying to make the best songlist possible since I am starting. Hence when I see a discount disc from the Idol brand that I dont have the song for yet, I dont want to worry about getting a stinker from a bad reputation brand.

quote from soundchoice studio manager:

Yes, they are the identical tracks as those produced for and released on the Sound Choice label.
Performers Choice is a consumer line for mass merchant accounts, with pricing more in line with their requirements. The songs on the PC discs are limited to the biggest, most evergreeen type hit songs.

Nashville Star and American Idol are licensing agreements which license the use of our tracks with those brand names.

For a low-cost starter set, you simply cannot beat SuperCore. As I said, the older songs are usually the excellent older Pioneer ones (that were on the laser disks). The newer ones tend to be Pop Hits, which I also like very much, or Legends/Sunfly which are usually OK if not great.

Supercore is excellent.

If indeed American Idol are SoundChoice tracks, obviously that is great. I have two of them.

My library recommendations are:

  * Buy all the DK stuff on sale at karaoke.com -- you can't beat it at $3-5 per disk.
  * Buy selected the Pop Hits closeouts at less than $5 per disk
  * Pick up the SoundChoice foundation
  * Get a couple of appropriate ChartBuster essentials packs that target any older age groups you think you might want to cater to (the 60s essentials are good, so is the 40s-50s for the senior crowd)
  * If your area has a lot of country music pick up some Chartbuster essentials, obviously some of the older stuff if you have lots of older people

Delete Star Disc, add Ameri-Sing, All Hits, Music Maestro, Karaoke Hits, and some SC Star Series ( all independently owned with shared licensing)

SuperCore ( my favorite start-up set as well ) was originally KJ Pro, who they bought out, then got into the shared licensing agreements with the above.
