Hi folks,

Does anyone have any experience with lower end Peavey mains, such as the pv series or pr neo series?  Prices are features seem attractive, would like to stay away from ultra cheap gear such as beringer and nady, but still obtain reliability and a nice kj result with a couple of subs added.

Which models in particular are looking at, the PV series is ok, the PR series aren't great?  Their SP line is really worth considering spending the extra if you go with Peavey & IMO 2 main places NOT to skimp on cost are proper amp power & speakers.

I like the idea of the composite molded enclosures and reduced weight for the pr 12s.  Just wondering about the quality, $169 is pretty cheap.  The sub seems to have positive reviews, but i wonder how it woud compare next to a bit more expensive woofer.  

I haven't touched a PA since the mid 90's, so i have no idea what the best bet is anymore as far as value is concerned.  I live about 17 miles from Sweetwater, and they have a great return policy if needed.  I've been researching different speakers online, it seems that the yamaha v club line of mains are great for the money, but not the subs.  

For amps, the crown XS500 ($349) seems to be a good value.

Sound-wise, you will get better sound from Peavey wood boxes.

The SP series is about the best deal going in stage boxes, and they seem to last forever....My SP-2G's are 6 years old and sound better everyday, and I got 600 watts each hitting them hard.

The neo 15 are pretty good, but I don't think the 12s or 10s cover the lower range very well.....they really sell a lot of the 15s..I got neo 15s, got some TLM 12s that I use often...the 15s are much easier to handle than the TLM 12s....they also have a filter to keep out damaging lows, and can be paralled with certain subs, if you had to do that, maybe if you lost one of your amps, or you needed a quick setup.....IMO

The Peavey PR Subs are a great bang for the buck. I am using 4 on my rig. $199 each, and a great deal. If you remember that subs are used to take the bottom end load off your mains. If you want to boom  walls for whatever reason in karaoke..then get something else. But for great bottom end, and portability, you can't beat them. I purchased two of Carvins new LM15 non powered mains with neodymium drivers. They weight in at 32 pounds each. I also have the SP2's. The SP's have nothing over the carvins. I can carry two of the Carvins at a time, and they sound just fantastic $239.99 each! You don't have to pay a fortune for speakers or a power amp. If you are careful do your home work, you can get a great set up and save bucks. I personally don't like Behringer. But i have friends that swear by them, while i swear at them. But i must admit, their set up sounds just as good as a peavey set up with BW's. Just do your home work. I have a fantastic set up, with plastic boxes, they are light, great specs, good bargin...I'll take'em...SOLD!

I have a set of the Peavey PR12's.   For a Lighweight 12' speaker I think they are GREAT !.   Now keep in mind they are what they are ...a 12" lightweight speaker.
Great from some applications but not ALL.   I use them for smaller  gigs without a sub.  I would think with a properly matched sub and powered accordingly they could handle MOST applications.

Dollar for dollar and POUND FOR POUND ..I'll take my set of Peavey SP5G or Yamahas SV115  but for those smaller gigs I LOVE MY PR12'S.
