Let me scroll back, and check what I posted awhile back. I'll repost the link (of course assuming this problem is irratic, what worked a few months back, might currently not work), but I'll check. I did read the post you posted to Phill. Link posted in the your thread Vicki... Netscape dot com... Try from there. |

See, everything is about sex for you pervs. I was trying to show you that cats are more independent than dogs, They don't need their owners legs like dogs to form a bonding relationship ! they use their paws and fly solo like real men. They don't need partners either ! That's why their owners get them declawed. It's healthier for their love life; It's either that, or something ends up cut and they start talking like Fran Drescher. |

One of my daughters friends were over and asked if they could smoke. WHAT? I said how old are you? He says - 17 Well that would be illegal and as long as you are in my house there will be no smoking! His parents buy them for him - yikes. I gave him a huge lecture - I thought the poor kid was going to climb under the table. |

I wonder why they do. Before judging that as stupid (all around), I wonder if there's a method to this madness. Perhaps they know he'll get them regardless, and they don't wish for him to get busted, or pay a gouged price ? Perhaps the parents are concerned about people lacing ciggies in your area with other substances ? Before judging, I'm wondering WHY this might be, assuming he's not lying. |

Babs I adore you but hell, its a cigarette...if his folks buy them for him then the only objection you should have is that you dont wish to have a smoker in your home and for him to take it outside. My mother used to buy me a packet a week with the groceries when I was 15, it was the only thing that got me thru exams. I am still an active smoker, and yes its an informed choice I make, but I refuse to be made to feel like a 2nd rate citizen for choosing to smoke, and I certainly will not be made to feel like a criminal becos its against the law |

My mom gave me my first cigarette at around 9 or-so. She was hoping that by taking a deep inhale and gagging and passing out it'd prevent me from smoking. She was wrong.. Started shortly afterwards, but never really got hooked on smoking the way I got hooked on alcohol, and narcotics. IOW, quitting for me was never THAT tough actually, and I was up to around 4 packs daily at a few points. Toughest thing, dieting, and cutting down food consumption |

It bothered me horribly his parents would do this. I struggle so much with quitting smoking and here is a 17 yr old thinking it is okay because his parents buy them. That was his argument. When I spoke with him I explained how hard it is to quit and at his age it would be much easier just not to start. I told him I personally don't know anyone who smokes that doesn't want to quit and wished they'd never started. Sure kids will find a way to do it even if their parents don't condone it. I just don't know why they'd want to give him the sense that it is okay by condoning it. There is a reason it is illegal. If my kids were smoking I'd be trying to help them quit not buying them cigarettes. Vicki I'm not judging what your mother did, but don't you think the world is different now. Our kids have all kinds of information about smoking that we didn't. My goodness at my high school we had a smoking lounge for the seniors and the ground outside the doors of the school were littered with cigarette butts. No one ever explained the dangers or the addictiveness. It was socialbly acceptable everwhere. I wish someone would have told me what I told this kid at my age. I just had to take the chance that maybe something I said would sink in. I won't bring it up to him again. All I know is it is one less cigarette he had that day. |
