Hi guys!

Just found this forum to be pretty interesting. You can find a forum on pretty much anything nowadays.

Anyway, I have a few questions. Lets start with some background information about me. I've been Karaoking for many years now, on and off. I never liked the idea that we are forced to pay a lot of money just to sing -- the places we go to forces us to spend a minimum requirement on drinks/food as well. Just recently my family purchased a Karaoke "machine". I think it's pretty much a dvd player. With it, came 10,000 songs on a single dvd. Unfortunately, 99% of these songs are in chinese and quite frankly, I'm an American who is only interested in singing ENGLISH songs.

My question to you, folks, is where I can buy a 10,000 songs dvd with only English songs, similar to the format of that Chinese set my parents use? I think the songs are in midi, so, I'm assuming that's how they were able to jam-pack the disc with all that. If you guys can give me the lowdown on Karaoke discs, where to find them, how much it will cost,  and which one may be more desireable than others, that would be great. I'm into everything mainstream, which includes pop, hip hop, r&b, rock, etc.

Thanks a lot!

check out the sponsors on the left purple side, at the bottom in black.

Particularily, acekaraoke is really good with dvd type stuff, but the dvd player you got can probably do cdg as well.

What type of player do you have?

Welcome to the site!

acekaraoke.com is very good for international music in my opinion.  10,000 midi's??? huh? i suggest getting a good basic set of cdgs - soundchoice, chartbuster, dk, whatever - they'll be in english too.  not a big fan of dvd karaoke either - not sure about getting to 10,000 as well.  i know getting 10,000, but realistically, i don't think it's necessary to have that many...if even available.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

So acekaraoke is good for its price or is it known for its selection, or both?

What are cdgs exactly and why would you recommend them over, say - something like midis? I like the midis because you can fit a lot more on a disc, so you don't have to switch discs all the time.

I'm looking for 90's - 00's mainstream hits. Which ones would you recommend then? Anyone?

And why do you guys not recommend DVD karaoke as opposed to the other choices you listed?

Forgive me, for I have been out of the loop. The last things we used were LDs, you know, those huge discs that could double as a UFO.

For the definitions of karaoke formats (until the NEO and Supercdg)
http://www.knightshow.com/misc/define

I really should update that to reflect those two, and add in the CAVS format as well.

There are specific spotlights made by SC and other manus that say "hits of the 90s", etc...
