Post subject: | help on a digital key mixer with reverb/DSP |
I would like to buy a mixer which has both digital key control and reverb/DSP for home use. The budget is $300. I know it is tight but I believe there should be something out there. I found vocopro DA-5800RX, but not sure its qulity. Please give me some advice. Thank you |

I don't know why you would want a key changer in the mixer -- any decent CDG player has one, and the PC-based software has them. What are you trying to do, DVD-based karaoke or something? I have the VocoPro KJ-3000 which I bought as the first mixer I had. It's key changer is crap. I have a SYM-600 which has a good key changer, but is a crappy mixer. I would buy a separate key-changer if you need one -- they run about $80. |

Unless you are referring to an mtu Hoster computer program, you need an outside keychanger as the others suck wind. for what they want to spend I can get a sintronic amplifier (300 watts per sside) that has every item that one would need. For $210 one can get the vocopro 3700 pro mixer amplisfier (which I now own has everything but with a lesser power rating per side (100 watts per side @ 8 ohms). |

Certainly it is better than the key changer on my VocoPro mixer.... Quote: for what they want to spend I can get a sintronic amplifier (300 watts per sside) that has every item that one would need. I am not sure they have "every item that one would need". They have no EQ to speak of, and I believe the effects are poor at best. |

Will one of these little VP DTX-5000G's work for him? This one belongs to my daughter. She says it works pretty decent for being a vocal pro product. It can take both HI-Z and LO-Z mics, change keys, show graphics, and i'm not 100% sure on the verb though. It might have that nasty cheesy echo crap. ![]() |

Everyone wants a new one to come out. The only software based keychanger worth its salt is built into Hoster. Any Hardware based keychanger, including the lousy ones built into the cdg players, is better than Pacemaker. You don't have to wait several notes for the change that you do have to wait for Pacemaker to make it's change. What is this no eq to speak of bit? I can eq anything with a high low and mid adjustment buttons which is present on both models for not only the music but the vocals as well. |

The only software based keychanger worth its salt is built into Hoster. I don't have to read on other forums. I use both Hoster and Pacemaker, and the only thing I don't like about Pacemaker in comparison is the lag time. Otherwise, it works great and sounds good. In some ways better than Hoster's, which has some ringing artifacts from time to time. I do have ears, and I know how to operate a computer. I can make my own evaluation there, and Pacemaker is fine. You don't have to wait several notes for the change that you do have to wait for Pacemaker to make it's change. If that is your only criterion, Pacemaker sucks. To me it is a minor problem, since I can adjust the key while the song is on pause and have no problem. It *sounds* good, which the hardware-based keychangers I have seen often do not. The VocoPro keychanger on the KJ-3000 sounds terrible, artifacts galore -- and the bigger the change, the worse it is. For me, the sound is king. And if you are often changing key in the middle of the song, something is wrong with the way the show is running, in my opinion. Quote: What is this no eq to speak of bit? Well, I differ on that. I think that you need to be able to do better than that for a lot of rooms. If you want intelligible and "present" vocals, you need to be able to tune the midrange, and you can't do that with bass/treble and channel EQ. If it had a sweepable mid, maybe. But that still would make it difficult to accomplish. And I am sure those units don't have sweepable mids. |

You and I are going to have to agree to disagree as I own hoster and the only reason I don't use it is I don't want to load my songs into Hoster only to find I have to do it again to use the same songs with a better program due to Hoster's proprietory KMA format. Sorry i chose to import to mp3+G zipped due to it's universal support and was willing to give up a better keychanger for the very lacking pacemaker. Oh and I don't use pacemaker anymore because I switched from RoxBox to tricerasoft's Just Karaoke because it offered more than what RoxBox offered. |
