I have tried Swift Elite 4, Karafun, PCDJ hoster with Karaoke plugin 7.2, and the conclusion is that each have their bugs, and great features.  I am reasonably new to this, so I don't have a great deal of "track time" but can anyone recommend any of these, or others that are reliable, low CPU usage, and can accomplish the following?:
1) Singer queue
2) Dual deck format
3) Great database capability for searching songs
4) Playlists and playlist queue requests
5) Video pizzaz (nice video transitions, background, etc. to add to boring low-res text displays
6) Multiple sound card support
7) Handle all media formats for audio, video, pictures, graphics, etc.
8) Nice configurable and intuitive human interface/skins
9) DJ special effects (flanging, echo, etc.)
10) Mix and record capability

There are other "nice to have" features, but these are the top 10 I really need.  Let me know....all you "seasoned" DJ's/KJ's.

thanks, Lu

Not many out there with ALL those features.  Try Compuhost.

geez, too much substance.

What ever happened to the good ol' days when the kjs knew what they were doing??? when they pressed play on a player and the music played??? Where they adjusted the singer and did what they had to do? Where they kept track of the rotation?

In my opinion, keep it simple for the computer... treat it only as a player and storage for the music. Let the KJ worry about the rest of it.

I used endorse the "simplicity" style, however, in today's world, I find you get an extra edge when you allow your tools to work for you.  This gives you more time to provide that entertainment value.

I did try out CompuHost, but although it is a good KJ tool, it lacks on DJ capabilities.

Again you aren't going to find much that caters to both with the features you want.

tools for what my friend?

Quote:

5) Video pizzaz (nice video transitions, background, etc. to add to boring low-res text displays

Nice configurable and intuitive human interface/skins
9) DJ special effects (flanging, echo, etc.)
10) Mix and record capability

a queue is handled by all sorts of ways. In my free winamp, you see the songs listed in the "queue", as you would in any sort of computerized player. To me, it honestly takes TIME to pull out the keyboard, enter the data... precious moments that you could be using to pay attention to the singers, sound levels, other customers, etc.

I agree that the dual deck format is fantastic for easy transition from karaoke or dj mix music, vids, etc. Which is why I suggested the clubdjpro software.

The echo is handled by the pro mixer.

As far as recording, that's another whole ball of wax. When I've recorded, I've gone preamp out of my mixer to the stand alone digital workstation w/cd burner. To be honest, it was way too much trouble, and not enough folks were seriously interested in it. And I didn't make squat off the extra effort.

Wow, that would be a monster.  I'm working on a program that has most of that but the low CPU overhead thing would be tough.  At the moment I think VDJ would be the closest but the overhead is huge.

I agree, Karaokeware is the best I have found. I have tried three other programs and I like Karaokeware best. You can put in all the music you want in the filler music box and it will automaticly play each song without any dead time in between each song. I did a gig where only a couple of people sang and I played music with it for over 4 hours. Just sit back and let the program do it for you.
