Babs got me thinking about this one. For the musicians around here that don't mind revealing how many times they've been around the block. What were some of the Bands you've been a member of and better yet, how did you arrive at the name. I'll start with one I remember.
The Band : "Hurt Me Tommy"
The name was chosen after what seemed like several hours and even severaler(I made that word up) beers bouncing names off each other, you know, names like Cheese stix, Toast, things like that. A couple of the guys got a little rowdy and started screwing around, Tommy, one of the guitar players shoved Doug the light guy, and of course he said "Well hurt me tommy", I said good enough meeting over. Played under that name for over fifteen years. and Thanx Babs for getting me thinking about that.

Let's see "Prism" was one and "Night Rangers" Yuck ! Not to mention I think there is already a band named Night Rangers. LMAO My last band was together 6 yrs, but that was eons ago. I always hated the name "Directions". We had a really cool logo though.

Always thought about the name "Free Beer." It would look good on the marquee!

Let's see...
My dad's band was "Cripple Creek Playboys", though they broke up quite a few years ago. (they played bluegrass) LOL
But I personally never played "out" with them, I was to young.
My sis's two bands I have sang with are "Rebels" and "Cherokee Rose". The latest band I sang with was "Taska and the Outlaws".
Dang, I miss doing that too. Quite a bigger thrill than your everyday karaoke.
It's cool to hear these stories tho, about HOW people came up with the band name... gotta admit, some of them leave you wondering, Lol.

Well I already mentioned "Hurt Me Tommy" and how it was named. I think the first band I worked with was a road band out of New York.
It was called "CandleMass Eve" I wasn't involved in naming that band but if I'm not mistaken I believe it's something to do with an old christian holiday involving the purification of the virgin. I guess it's still a holiday for The Church of England. In any case the backdrop looked really Kewl , I don't recall any body ever asking where the name came from and I don't believe I ever asked the founding members how they came about picking that name. I do remember the front guy was like 5'2" and wore these waaay tall blue sparkle platform shoe's. I must admit he was one hex of a showman, did parts of the old Cooper show sometimes including the hanging himself. I guess you could say it was a show band. Played all over the East and Midwest from Florida even up into Canada. It would have been the early 70's, perhaps some of you that were younger once might have seen that band.

My first band I was in junior high (82) called the Bad Boys. Played AC/DC covers. AC/DC was dubbed the Bad Boys from down under which is where the name came.
Second band was an original project called Eclipse (83-87) - no meaning behind name. We did have an album "The Sun Won't Shine Anymore" - Hey it was cool for a bunch of teens.
Played in a pop/rock cover band shortly ( 88 ) named Copper & Brass aptly named for the 2 female singers one wore copper outfit & the other wore brass.
Took a break went back into recording/live sound engineering full time eventually started karaoke in 89-90 or so.
Met a band looking for guitar in 93 named Yer Muther.
I joined that & they revamped the singer & renamed Bride Wore Black (not sure don't ask).
We went through a couple name changed - Higher Source (named from our financer at the time as he wanted us to have something 'Spiritual' & Airia 51 was the last name. Last 3 bands, same lineup - different names. 93-96.
Tempest was next in 96-2000. Stormy female lead singer.
HolloH was next 2000-2003 - no reason, just wanted something you could hold up to mirror & it would look the same.

My Bands:
Mourning Prayer - I remeber covering Megadeth and Yes in the same band.
Kove - 2original - acoustic gutars and me the drummer.
Choke - 3 peace 50 /50 band - half covers - half orginal sounded like Alice in Chains
Calavary - original Jesus Metal.
No Engine - original -90's Indie alternative.
Plastic Crap - original - Sounded like B52's / Iggy Pop 7 Piece band with gog go dancers. We used to put out ton's of free plastic crap, army guys and toys anything plastic we found at the $1 store. People would generally thow it at us.
Bucky And The Surf Wevils - original - Really messed up demented clown / circus music.
Scab - Original sounded like disturbed / godsmack
Translucent Lucy - original with some covers - Metal from soundling like Queesnsryche to Slayer with some alternative sounding songs like weezer or the cure. Some said we sounded like Type O Negative or Marlyn Manson.

The "Suppurating Pustules". Obviously a punk band.
I saw "Sober On Sunday" on a flyer -- style unknown, but I bet I know their beverage of choice.
And the band "Captain Rat and the Blind Rivets" was a popular local combo in Champaign, Illinois.

1987 - Krank
The drummer picked the name because we played loud heavy metal.
