Here is what it's SUPPOSED to look like. This is about the same exact size of the one I have. (of course, minus all the pretty green leaves now) :(

I have KILLED a "money tree". LMAO (leave it to me to kill something that is supposed to assure prosperity) :roll: I was tending the plant, it's a small one, about 8" tall... it was doing good and all of a sudden one day, the leaves fell off, all at once... and it's continued to go downhill. Everything I have read online makes it sound like they are easy to tend. Holy crap, nuh uh, they're not either. :no: I am a great gardener, I can always get a garden (and anything outdoors) to do awesomely. I flat suck at house plants, no two ways about it. Trust me, I can kill a freakin' Ivy plant if left in my care. Well, someone recently gave me the care of 3 plants. (2 are Ivy varieties, so far so good) but this one has died a lonely death. I can NOT get it to perk up. And it's a very, very important little plant. I HAVE to save it, if at all possible. Anyone have any experience with these? (Jian maybe, they're a form of bonsai... I think...??) And DON'T be laughing at me, I'm completely serious:) . |

I have seen that plant in many homes and office here. very common and easy to take care of. It does not need TOO much watering. Its tropical so make sure the room temperature is right. And give it a lot of light. |

Is this plant in a standard pot, or is it a Bonsai ? That is called a "Braided Money Tree" and is found in both Asia, and S America. Look up proper care online. It's a smaller indoor tree, not a "plant" per se. |

Over watering will put the trees into shock and gradually kill them. Put in a cool dry place and let the potting soil dry out. As any other tree if there is still life in the roots they will come back. A tree in that case takes severe pruning On that one Im not sure It is actually a few trees wound around each other. |

It is a braided money tree.. yes, it's an indoor only tree.. they start very small but can get pretty big. (if you don't KILL the poor little things....) :roll: I've read a gazillion websites about them, naturally I did that long before making a thread on here about it. This is, after all, a karaoke site, not a bonzai forum. Lol.. I just thought, perhaps, someone could tell me some little unknown secret (like.. put green tea on it, or... disolve an aspirin in water and pour it on the roots..) You know, we've all heard silly things that make plants magically perk up. It was far fetched that I'd get that one amazing piece of advice here, but I thought I'd ask. I'm afraid it's... gone. I think, perhaps, I did overwater it, for fear of it being underwatered. The plants were all sadly neglected. I think I'm going to just order a new one. Daym little thing is gonna cost about $40.  NICE way to start a new job eh? "Umm, by the way boss, I killed our office money tree". LMAO Ah well, he's a nice guy, he says we needed a new one anyhow, since I'm new to the office too. (wonder how many of these he'll agree to buy before he takes over caring for them again himself?) Lmfao.... ah well. He hired me for my charm & experience anyways, not my plant watering abilities. 
Thus ends the money tree saga... hopefully the new one will fare better;) Note to all karaoke scene members: if you ever meet me, don't leave me in care of your houseplants, and don't ask me to feed your fish or cats while you're away...

Why yes ! You've come to the right place. There's this obscure little known :Green thumb: thing. That makes things grow. 1- Put a digital camera on tripod, timed at 10 second auto-shutter setting. 2- Take off your shirt and make sure digital camera is focused on Bonsai. 3- Center Bonsai between two jugs making sure sun is shining on Bonsai but behind camera. 4- Post photo of Bonsai in photo gallery here C/O " Silly ways to get things to Perk" |

You know, I HAVE some pics like that. My digital camera literally STAYS on the tripod in my bedroom. Maybe I'm doing something wrong though, cause the little bonzai failed to grow. It's pretty stiffened up, but no bigger. If I sent you the pics, will you tell me what I'm missing? (well, other than my shirt) . |

Do you have any large nurseries near your area that you can call ? Bonsai's are extremely tricky. They aren't all easy by any means. Sometimes it requires removing them and looking at the root structure. When replanting them how the roots are clipped is important too. Yet I don't even think a nursury could help much because they usually have that type plant just long enough to sell it. I have a book, and I'll see what I can find. I wouldn't know by looking at it, It's been many years since I managed to kill my own little trees. |

I'd post of the pic of THIS plant, but you'd all laugh at me for sure:) Steven, do WE have NUSERIES near here? LMAO I live on a Rhodie farm. Canby Nurseries Most of these are within 5 minutes or so of me... some of the other ones, within 20 minutes. Yeah, we have nurseries close by. I think I should just give this one a blessing and send it off heavenward. (or, give it a toss out onto the burn pile) It's pretty dead I think. (makes me sad tho)

All depends on the root system. This is what's tough. Containers on Bonsai are small, so they don't hold much water.. Knowing how to water according to what season and house conditions is important. Take the tree to a nursery and let them tell you what to do. Let those experienced with the plant, tell you what's what. Let them feel the soil, they might lift it to see if the root system is rotted out, etc. We aren't talking about Pothos or Water-Lilies that basically if there's a problem it's just add water, or repot them. Bonsai can be tricky. |

I'm the exact same way btw.. I HATE to see things die. Especially if I could've done something differently. Don't be afraid to call one of these resources near you. That's what they are for. As much as I enjoyed my attempts at Bonsai, the dry electric heat in the winters is killer for them. You need to dig a ditch outside, cover them with hey in the winter, and set up special conditions for them.
