Hi !

I am very new to karaoke (, yes a "noob") so I have a few questions.

My wife (a filipina) has just got back home from a trip to the Philippines. She brought with her a new karaoke player including mic's, a songbook and a cd with filipino and english songs. Everything works just perfect.

So I got to be interested in the CD. I thought that this also could be played on my pc with the right software. But my windows explorer does not seem to handle the CD as there is no file being listet. However, Windows media player is able to recognize the videos on the disk (the videos that serve as background when you sing), but that's it.

In the user manual it is listet four cd formats that can be played on the unit:

-DVD
-Video CD
-CD
-Midi CD

After browsing the net for a while , my best guess is that this is a MIDI CD. If so, is there a way that my PC could read it. At least I would like to take a backup copy.

During my search I also see that there is another matter to this also. The thing that is called COPY RIGHTS. Ii has actually never struck me that also karaoke songs is under protection from copy rights. ( yep thats right , I'm the stupid one here probably). So I guess this is likely to be an illegal copy because it looks very much like the RW CD's you can buy for home usage everywhere. This is bougth in a store selling electronics (and not in an dark alley after midnight) as a package solution, but this is Asia and I guess they don't have the best reputation when it comes to piracy. On the other hand this is about the same system (which includes several thousand songs) that is used in all karaoke bars in the Philippines. Are all these pirated stuff too ?

I would appreciate if there is anyone that could help me clearify this things.
Thank you.

Anwin

I am no expert but I doubt that midi karaoke would have a video component...but i could be wrong.
if you have winamp installed on your pc try getting the cdg plug in that enables cdg discs to be played
alternatively you may need to upgrade your cd rom to a plexitor most of those read cdg

Well I have tried karaoke players that supports the CD+G format without any luck. Also my karaoke player does not support CD+G, but it still playes the disk so it can't be the solution.

However I was able to make a copy of the disk after making a image-file of it using MagicIso.

Should there be anyone that knows about a software that plays MIDI CD's, please let me know.

Thanks.

Did you try checking the properties of the CD  in "my computer" ? It seems that you should be able to get some kind of clue that way. I'm not sure on that but I have several midi files I use with my keyboards and if I right click them for properties they are listed as a midi file.
