My GF asked me to get a home karaoke system going. I have a bunch of PCs laying around so I thought I would use one of them. She had a old laserdisc karaoke standalone player. After giving up on MIC input on the PC, I decided to use the standalone player for the mic input. So I want the songs to come from the PC and the MIC input to come from the standalone player. Is a mixer what I need? Would the mixer also get rid of the need for the standalone player since I'm only using it for MIC input? Just thought I'd ask to make sure before making a purchase. I'm not looking to record anything, just get music and MIC into my reciever. Thanks. |

Yes, the mixer would get rid of the need for the laser disk player. Most of those, by the way, have a CDG function -- at least the PIoneer units I am familiar with. So if you have CDGs, you should be able to play them. If you are looking at going digital, then any PC with a sound card should be able to plug into a little mixer. You could get a Behringer 1002FX mixer, a cable, and a mic for about $120 new and be up and running without need for the laserdisc player. |

Will the mixer output the MIC input in stereo? When I was using the MIC input on the PC, I was only getting 1 channel input. I did find the Behringer 1002FX mixer model in my other searches through this forum. What cable are you referring to? The laserdisk player is super old. She dug it out of her closet. Too bad there is no remote for the mixer. |

The laserdisk player is super old. She dug it out of her closet. Too bad there is no remote for the mixer. A standard XLR-XLR microphone cable. If you have a microphone which is hard-wired to a 1/4" plug you don't need anything more, but if your mic is that bad you should at least get a Behringer XM8500 to give yourself something halfway decent to sing with. |

Thanks for the help. I'm going to order the mixer and hope this finally pleases the GF! |
