Has anyone seen these shows?  I saw the Singing Bee last night.. It was kinda interesting..The Lyrics show premiers tonight.  I thought the dancing girls on the Singing bee were cute in their bee looking outfits.  But the show seemed a bit choppy to me..

And If I remember correctly it seems like one of the shows had posted here asking for contestants.  Did anyone here try out for this??  Or did anyone from here go one the show??

Saw part of it tonight for the first time.

You're right... kinda choppy. Also seems a little bit of an overblown production for what it is. It was hard to resist watching, though... being a karaoke lover.

Would be scared to be on it, just because I'd be the person who ends up getting "Louie Louie". LMAO

Yeah I get the feeling I would get "blinded by the light"  and I would screw it up royally.. They have prolly consulted the "Kiss this Guy" website to see what songs are commonly sung wrong or mis understands the words...

I didn't see the show, but thought it was an entertaining idea. It is just funny they would come out with 2 shows at the same time with the same premise.

1. Singing Bee - It is a 30 minute game show that starts with 6 contestants. The first round has the live band sing a song, and then stop at a certain part. Then, in order, each contestant has to sing the missing words. The 1st one to get it right goes on to the next round. A new song is sung (once the previous song lyrics are guessed correctly) until there are 4 contestants in the next round. Round 2 consists of jumbled words on a screen. The band sings a song and then stops at the part where the jumbled words are. The contestant has to sing the lyrics correctly (unjumbled). This goes on until there are 2 contestants qualified for the final round. Round 3 was back to the same as round 1.

2. Don't Forget the Lyrics - This is another Karaoke based show (Dammit!!! I missed the ad in Craig's List by 2 weeks to try out/audition for the show when they were in NY). This show is formatted very similar to "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire." The contestant is given a choice of gendres (sp?) of music. The contestant then picks a category and has to choose from 1 of 2 songs. He/She then sings along (with a teleprompter) the entire song until they get to a part where the lyrics are blank. He/She then has to sing the blank words. The first few songs are only 4 blanks, As they get higher on the money, the blanks raise to 5 and then 9 or 10 words. There are 3 Lifelines.... 1 Lifeline is to give you 3 different lines of what the words should be. A second Lifeline allows you to remove 2 correct words from the screen (you choose a word, and it tells you if you are correct or not). Then you have to decide if the other words are correct or not. The 3rd Lifeline lets you choose one of your "Coaches" (kind of like "Phone a Friend"). You have 2 people with you sitting in a "Coaches Chair." You get to pick 1 of them, and they get to sing the song. You then have to decide if they are right or wrong.

Both shows were entertaining, but I'm not sure I can stand to watch 1 person singing for a full 30 minute show ("Don't Forget the Lyrics). The first contestant was an average singer. "Singing Bee" was a little more fast-paced, but it's harder than it looks. I agree, it was kinda hokie, but it grabbed my interest as a Karaoke Singer.

This is the first I've heard about either of the shows.  But from the descriptions, I am reminded of the '70s game show "Musical Chairs".  Anyone else remember that?  The host, Adam Wade, was the first African-American game show host on TV.  The show didn't last very long, as I recall, but it was pretty good.  (Back then, I was hooked on game shows.  They don't interest me at all now, though--I guess I'd rather play games than watch other people play them!)

I saw Don't forget the Lyrics last night.. And it is more Karaoke than the Singing bee.  I like host Wayne Brady waaaaay more than Joey Fatone.. Wayne is great at getting people excited and keeping the show really upbeat. The one I saw was where this girl won 300K.  She kinda sounded like a chipmunk when she sang but I was so into it I didn't care.. And she was very cute dancing around the stage as she sang. She had a LOT of energy.   I'll be watching the Lyrics show going forward, I really enjoyed it..

I think this would be a great show to get a bunch of people together and watch.. You could probably almost make it an interactive thing....
