Hello All

I'm new to the karaoke scene and would like any recommendations for a decent player for home use.  I've tried to look for some reviews online, but had no luck finding information on certain brands.  Acesonic, Vocopro, or CAVs?  What are the pros/cons of each?

I would like to be able to play asian karaoke dvds.  This is strictly for home use, and would not be used more than twice a week.  Thanks in advance.

Are you looking for an all-in-one unit or only a CDG/DVD player to connect to an existing audio system?

I’m also fairly new to home Karaoke.  Recently, first I purchased the Sony CDG/DVD player ($120) and returned it due to vocal distortion from its mic inputs.  Then I bought RSQ NEO C320 CDG/DVD player ($170), but it had vocal distortion too.  Per the recommendation of folks on this forum, I bought a Behringer 1002FX mixer ($90) to handle the mic inputs – much better sound, no distortion, and cool effects.  Bottom line is that if you’re looking for a CDG/DVD player, you might not be happy with the vocal quality of the mic inputs and might need to consider a small mixer to handle the mics.

I kept the RSQ CDG/DVD player.  Here are my initial impressions and observations:
1) The manual is horribly written/translated.  Also, the manual describes features that do not exist on the player.  
2) Fortunately, technical support seems good.  I was able to get a prompt/clear answer over the phone regarding manual/feature question.
3) There is some background noise/hiss in the audio output.
4) The NEO+G (proprietary compressed format) seems cool and supposedly you can create your own NEO+G disks to consolidate your library.  I have not tried this.

Hi Adam2434, or anyone,

Might you explain what "vocal distortion" means?  

If, say, one were having a group of 10 non-singers over for a house party would the vocal distortion ruin a good time with a non-singing crowd?  "Non-singer" meaning rarely, if ever, partake in the Karaoke-ing.

The distortion was bad enough with my (male) voice that I would have been embarrassed to have others over to sing.  The distortion was not as noticeable with my wife’s and kids’ higher pitch voices, or if I turned the mic level way down.  I’m fairly new to Karaoke and just to it occasionally at home, but I could not live with the distortion I was hearing.

In my original thread (you can search in the Technical forum), my original plan was to try to get a “better” player.  However, folks steered me to the inexpensive Behringer mixer.  The 2 players I tried were $120 and $170.  I don’t know if spending a lot more on a player (maybe a pro player) would give acceptable vocals from its mic inputs.  However, I can with certainty say that the $90 mixer produces good, distortion-free vocals, has a lot more effects capabilities, and provides a lot more connection flexibility.

I own a Cavs Super CDG player. It works fine, just a little slow to load cds. This is not to bad for just home use.

Acesonic has some decent players, but........customer service is not great. I know, I use to work for them.

Vocopro is decent, but normally overpriced.

If you are using just DVDs I agree with other user, buy a cheap mixer and use whatever you use for a DVD player now. The only real advantage to a karaoke player is it should have key control on it. This allows you to adjust the key of the music if its not in singers key.
