Don't feel bad...... we just had a little one too, only about a week before the SF one. I was on the phone gabbing to a sister, and a bit later all kinds of people were calling and emailing me "did you feel the quake"..... WTF?

It was only a 3.3, but centered about a mile from my house. Guess it takes a bigger one than that to rock my world.  :D

I was actually dissapointed. I mean, if we're gonna get in the news for having a danged quake (my small town never makes the news) .... I wanna be one of the freaks they film saying something like "well, I was cooking dinner, when all of a sudden, out of nowhere, I felt....blah blah blah"

:drunk:  LOL

But I felt absolutely nothing.

Hey I live in San Jose and I didn't feel a thing. The quake was on the San Adreas Fault and most of the shaking was done on the east bay. I went to visit my friend in Oakland Hills and all their pictures came off and dropped to the ground. Broke most of the glass. I just slept right through it.

I think I saw the water in my tub jiggle a bit once but nothing that would move anything. My husband freaked out when I wanted to hang a framed picture over the bed...LOLOLOL :rotflmao: A southern born and bred girl like me never even considered the death threat of glass shards raining down when the walls start moving.   Yet- I had a "quake pack" protein bars. water, dog food, blankets, battery operated lights and those candles that burn 7 days and matches...and shoes and a change of clothes. I guess if a big one hit at night we'd be running out in our PJs and barefoot. DAY-um...give me a hurricane ANY day..at least you have a week to evacuate!

How are those measured on the Richter Scale ?

Each 1/10 measured increase is X2 the magnitude ?

So a 4.2 is twice as powerful as a 4.1 ?

It's a logarithmic scale. So 4.0 is 10x of 3.0 for example.

Thanks Eben,  Haven't there been measured some -1 light tremors too though ?  I guess I'm confused.  Logarithm yet allows for -0 activity ?
