Post subject:  Wireless Connection: Laptop to Monitor & PA System? Equipment Recommendations?

Hi all, short time reader and first time poster.  This forum has been been very helpful to me in the past and I need your help with a connectivity challenge.

Home Setup:

RSQ E500 Player
Yamaha EMX312S Mixer
Yahaha BR12 PA Loudspeakers
PG288/PG58 Dual Vocal Wireless System
Panasonic TH-42PX75U Television

Considering going digital with:
IBM Laptop and MTU Holster Software (Opinions regarding software choice?)

Is it possible to stream file information wireless from Laptop to Television and PA System?  If so, how and what equipment?  The TV does not have a  RGB-VGA input.  I have a B&K Receiver as an option for accepting the file / video information and use the Yamaha PA only for vocals.  However, using the B&K for file play and the PA for vocals would be a volume balancing / changing nightmare.  Sorry, I digress....

Can you stream wireless file information from a laptop to a mixer and television?

2nd option is to purchase a new player with digital management.  I was leaning towards a disc player with a USB connection.  Recommendations for a player with USB input?

Do you know exactly what you are talking about when you say "stream"? I sure don't. You could shoutcast something over to another computer connected to the audio/video, but that would require two computers.

Now if you forget the stream term and talk about direct wireless line-level video/audio links, they do exist.

But without knowing what you are trying to accomplish, I can't tell you whether it makes sense. Probably not -- it seems you want to be able to move around and manipulate your karaoke from anywhere, using the WiFi to link to it. I know of no way.

Still in all, and especially for home use, the laptop is the way to go compared to a player in my opinion, assuming you have the technical chops to master the software well.

WRT software choice, MTU Hoster is like democracy. It is the worst show hosting software except for all the others. There are several things I don't like about it, but I really prefer it to all others despite it's idiosyncracies.

Well you know what they say about opinions!
I feel Hoster is one of the better programs out there.  Most stable, at least it's the only one that has never glitched, i've tried the demos on everything else & everyone of them have glitched (usually a skip or something to lose the lyric sync) while in play, i've never experienced it with Hoster (without the L  :) )yet.

i'm using hoster and this after MUCH deliberation on other programs.  it literally took me 8 months to make a decision and that was AFTER taking an equal amount of time just deciding to go digital.

as for the wireless interface, it's something i have been thinking about, but only recently so not much info from me on that front.

Thank you for the responses.  You assumed correctly how I want to configure my system.  In short, be able to have the laptop not tethered to the A/V equipment and operate the Karaoke.  Bummer it can't be done.  I'll forge ahead with the laptop  and load the MTU software.  As a sidenote, I was surprised at what MTU was charging for a laptop pre-loaded with MTU software.  You can basically double the quality of the MTU laptop by purchasing another brand and loading the entire MTU software package for another $300.00.

It can be done, but it requires two computers. You just use AutoKDJ or another program that has it's Karaoke operation on an HTTP server, then use your wireless network to browse the computer that is tethered. (Good word.)

I think there shortly should be some better things than AutoKDJ, which I tried and found so slow as to be unusable for a 6000 song libary. Maybe I just don't know how to set it up, but it took *forever*.

I have written a thing which runs on Linux, but no one in the world but me could ever set it up. 8-) It does the same thing, but much faster with auto-rotation and scads of other features. I toyed with the idea of setting up a karaoke bar myself, but decided I couldn't afford the time.
