Ok I'll get the do's and don'ts started Do's * Invest in quality music over quantity buy (sets to avoid duplication) * Provide the best sound possible with your setup * Keep your books up to date, clean, and in good repair * Run a fair rotation and never deviate from it * Make sure you keep it fun for you and your customers * Make your show all about the customer..not you and your desire to entertain * Write a mission statement for your business...then when making decisions that affect your business filter them through the mission statement..if it fits, do it, if not can the idea Don'ts * Purchase cheap music to build your song count quickly * Change your rotation and play favorites with one customer over another * If you are a good singer use that talent when needed, otherwise the show is not about you, it's about the customer....they are the show. There are many more that I know need to be posted, but this is a start |

I would disagree with just about everything in Flipper's post. Which is not to say that it isn't good advice, but I ran (now retired from karaoke) an entirely different style of show. I think bar/tavern/pub karaoke isn't about the music it's about the party. I didn't want "Singers." I wanted drinkers who sing more or less. The bar owner is interested in his bottom line, that's all. If he paying you $200 your show has to bring in $400 extra net, not gross. AND.... what most kj will overlook is the importance of return business of your karaoke crowd on non-karaoke nights. A bar lives and dies on its regulars. As for DOs, "Be yourself." |

I'm not sure why you'd need to say anything to your landlord. Am I missing something here? |

I am assuming landlord in the UK may mean manager or owner of the bar/pub? |

1st thing you gotta do is get a Business Plan and BUDGET set. The budget will point you in a direction for equipment and music. DO you want a Computer Based system or CDG's ? |
