Post subject: | Karaoke box systems |
Hello everyone: I am looking to start a karaoke box (room rental karaoke) however I am having trouble finding a suitable system. I am looking for an on-demand, server based system, but I am unable to find something decent available to purchase from North America or made here. Any help and/or suggestions are welcome. Thank you in advance. |

This "by room" karaoke is more of an Asian concept but it seems to be creeping over to the US. Could you explain exactly how it works and more importantly what you would be will in to pay for such a system? |

Yes, it is an Asian concept, but so is KARAOKE. The box format has been in the US longer than you think. It's been in New York for nearly a decade, and a few cities on the west coast too. It's also been in Canada in a few cities for well over 5 years. It is called a karaoke box, and it originates in Japan or Korea. Both claim origin, but who cares. It's more than likely Japanese however. It's popularity is growing rapidly also in China, but it's fueled mostly by illegal systems that don't respect licensing and copyright laws. A good example of a box system is described in the picture on the web page below. http://unifykaraoke.com/english/clubcon ... _large.htm I have found an American distributor of this system, with licensing. That said, the software is crap and I have seen much better systems in use in Japan, which is where my search is going next. Korea is another option, which produces systems of quality in between Japan and China. So I am trying to find a relatively local and suitable system for this genre of karaoke, but it's hard and I am hoping someone here can help! |

---- Thanks. This would have to be customized for a karaoke-database and supported applications? I like the idea that it is Linux based, but I think that systems with software requiring less customization are available and applicable for this type of business. Can you tell me more about how this would fit a karaoke box? |

It seems a fairly simple concept to inplement in software. I'm interested becasue I'm writing a new software hosting program under Windows (but I do think that Linux is the wave of the future). Anyway, how much does it cost? How much is it worth to you? How many rooms are you thinking of running karaoke in? |

I'm looking at 12 rooms. As for the costs, I am exploring those now. You seem to have more knowledge than I do in regards to creating such software and system. How much would you budget for implementing a 12 room system? |

Really I have no idea about costs as I have no idea what you would find acceptable and I have never even seen one of these systems. But, as a complete wild donkey guess.... I think that you would be a thousand dollars per room in the PA system. This would buy something small but with good sound and quallity corded mics. Computer-wise, if you just wanted to play karaoke and that's it, you could get by with older used equipment since it doesn't die and would be hidden from the public. Touch screen interface, software, servers, client computers, networking junk, about another thousand per room not including music. That is a complete guess based on little more than my imagination. If you just want a price on the software I can give you bid but I will need to know your hardware specifications. |
