Post subject:  How to Test If Speakers Are Blown?

I just had the misfortune of hitting the main mix level to max, instead of min, while trying to answer the phone.  There was a loud squawk, and I was able to quickly bring down the level to zero.  My speakers are the Yorkville NX55Ps and I'm not sure if they sustained damage.  I listened to the speaker by placing my ears to the high and low drivers on both speakers and they all seem to be working.  Is there an easy way to check if the speakers are still okay?

If they still play without distortion, they should be fine.

Thanks, Lonman.  That's what I was afraid of.  Immediately after I resumed playing music, I noticed distortion from the speakers.  I tried to open the front of the speakers, but I could not remove the cover.

I will test the speakers again using a CD player.  I was using my laptop to play MP3 and I know that the quality of MP3 is not as good as that of wav.  If the speakers still sound distorted, then I have to call Yorkville.  I still have more than one year of warranty on the speakers, and Yorkville has a 2-year unlimited warranty, even if I broke the speakers.  Unfortunately, their nearest office is in Niagara Falls, NY.  They might refer me to a local repair shop, if one is available.

Does anyone know how to open the front of a Yorkville NX55P?

Hmmm.... This idea did cross my mind.

Do you have any other "helpful" tips?
