I found some great buys lately. I thought I'd share.

Tambourine for $4.99

Inexpensive maracas that will last http://www.musiciansfriend.com/perc/navigation?q=maracas

I'll never waste my money on all wooden maracas again.

I've bought all kinds of props for karaoke, but these are the 2 things that that get used the most.

Used to have the tamborine & maracas - got more complaint from singers that people were shaking them on songs that couldn't use them & shaking them off time which threw the singer off time listening to the wrong beat - which was happening.  Now we just have inflatable guitars & saxs, hats & wigs for those who dare.

I have to agree with you - I have the same tambourine as Babs is showing and it is a great little buy.  I use it to back up some singers and I do OK--I do have this one GIRL who takes it and shakes it (both the tam and her) on every song through out the bar!!!    Others in the bar started to HIDE the tambourine so she can't find it !!!

I had the mics at one time, they all get stolen.  Quit getting them.

I haven't had that kind of problem yet. Usually it is the people on stage using them.
The closest problem I had to that is a wife complaining about a husband who was addicted to them and she did hide them from him.  LMAO It wasn't noticable from the singers point of view though.

Babs, i also have goodies that we take out for the singer or singers that are up to use, besides the maracas, and tambourines, we have a trumpet with a kazoo on the end, a washboard that you wear, and a string of chimes. It's all about participation, i know i get bored watching one singer after another, after another  getting up and singing. I know our crowds really appreciate getting the feeling of actually playing something. We have even had the kitchen help come out with pots and pans, spoons, what have you. And they all got up and sang Joy To The World by Three Dog night. The crowd just loves it. So as long as you use them correctly, and you seem to be doing that, let'em enjoy themselves. To me that's what karaoke is all about, the singers, and the listeners enjoying themselves. :oh yeah:

LMAO I saw that skit by SNL.
I tinkered with the thought of a cow bell, but thought how many songs would it actually be appropriate for - not many. Plus the fact it is so loud. I'm with you on that one.  :D

Cowbell can get quite annoying, it cuts thru very loud mixes, on the other hand Tambourine/ maracca's/guero/kabasa in the bars around here that have entertainment (that are very loud just from having 400+ people on a thursday, friday, saturday night) unless you're next to the thing likely wouldn't hear it if it's not mic'd), Just something else to get stolen.
